Not high end at all, just a cheap mechanical keyboard off Amazon with red switches. I pulled all the keys, sprayed the case with Krylon Satin Khaki, and installed SP Keyboards C64-style keys. The RGB backlighting even reminds me of the rainbow on the original unit’s metal badge at the top of the photo! I’m loving the modern typing experience connecting me to the warm fuzzies of the early ‘80s. #mental_health #nostalgia #80s_nostalgia

Great work, it looks very nice! Could probably create a custom hardware encoder to bring back the run/stop, restore, and other key functionalities.

Thank you! I suspect this is just the beginning, and that more customization is ahead!

I still have my Vic-20, C=64, and C=128D. The 128 is plugged in and on my desk, too :) Gotta get around to finishing Ultima IV one of these years...

Not going to try and cram an SBC or Framework motherboard into it? Like the Raspberry Pi 400
sys64738
That’s a great idea! But the case itself is very tight around the board, so a new bottom case would have to be made. Or maybe pop the legs up to their highest height, then tuck a SBC in a slim case under it!

Early 80s, eh? Lol, you probably read a lot of my reviews, played some of my games, and maybe even logged into the BBS I ran for a CBM mag

I know that there were several zines back in the day; I subscribed to Compute! Gazette. Although I had a 300 baud acoustic coupler, sadly there were no dedicated CBM BBS' in my area.

What were some of your games?

I've heard rumor that some people have found gold coins near a sunken ship named the S.S. Marie. 🦈

Indeed they have. Such wealth may even have been a precursor to "Future War". Good to see someone who remembers my old stuff.
