My new throttle arrived and it’s awesome. But it weighs a ton. #throttle #diy #hotas #virpil

My old throttle was mounted to a monitor arm with double sided tape. There’s no way I can get away with that now. And the mounts aren’t VESA compatible.

Fortunately we have a solution for this.

The bottom plate can be easily unscrewed. Which means it can be easily drilled out.

Once the holes are in place, it’s time to tap in the threads.

I have a bunch of PC thumbscrews so I matched the threading to them.

It lines up with the old monitor arm mount.

Perfect fit!

And more than enough to hold the throttle on.

Good for stowing it when not in use.

I misread title as Vespa mounted and came expecting some kind of MOD/cyberpunk mashup

I'm going to need bigger thumbscrews.

As someone who has never had a proper flight setup, is vesa mounting a throttle common?

It's not super common. I've seen several other people use monitor arms like these as a budget option, it's where I got the idea.

It's a good idea and well executed! I could see this being useful.

I used thin velcro for mine. Easy to adjust/remove and holds well.

I used 3M dual-lock velcro to mount the joystick to the arm. It's decent, but my joystick is so heavy that the velcro can barely keep up.

I assume this is part of a serious flight sim setup? Cool. Not my thing, but always admired those rigs.

Me too!

Well, define serious? I have this throttle and a joystick I built myself, but it pales in comparison to some setups.

I guess serious insofaras you have custom kit to enjoy the hobby. I knew a guy massively into sims - he's a commercial pilot now.

I'm more of a UI nerd instead of a flight nerd. I have a LOT of unusual interfaces for my computer. I use this one for space sims.

Hnnnng I so badly want some Virpil and VKB gear for Elite Dangerous. Great set up!

Yeah, I upgraded to the Virpil throttle from a Thrustmaster TWCS. The upgrade STUNG, but it was worth it to get rid of TWCS issues.

I'm using a hotas x and it's developed yaw twitch but I can't justify dropping the money just yet

I had the exact same problem on the TWCS. I wound up taking it apart and spraying the potentiometer with contact cleaner. Worked perfectly.

I might have to give that a try! Thanks!
