Monitor Connected Via USB-C Disconnects After Short Time

Jan 30, 2024 1:32 PM

System
Acer Predator Helios 16 (PH16-71)
Intel i9-13900HX Processor
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080
32 GB RAM
Windows 11 Home 64-bit

Issue
I am using my laptop monitor and two extra monitors. One is connected via HDMI and the other via USB-C connected to a port in the back. Over time, if I am not using my keyboard or mouse, the monitor connected via USB-C turns off. I move the mouse and use the keyboard, but it does not turn back on. Only when I unplug it from the port in the back of the laptop and plug it back in does it come back on. I have had to do this several times.

What I Have Tried
My power settings are all set to NEVER.
In the Device Manager, under each USB device, in the Power Management tab, all of these have both boxes ("Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power") UNchecked.

As a government employee this happens a lot on my laptop. It is usually caused right after an update requiring another update. Govt computers update all the time

Could be a setting on the actual monitor. Maybe try to default all those. Check for setting in the actual monitor software. Kinda sounds like a bug so upgrade to the latest firmware on the monitor and laptop/video card.

I guess that’s a tower though. Def check in that nvidia Control Panel, and make sure you’re on the latest drivers for that card.

Both monitors are Acer CB272. Only one of them goes off and it's the one connected via USB-C. I don't know how to update firmware on a monitor, but I'll check for updates for my card.

Just to be sure - this USB-C connection is just for data - or are you using it to power the monitor as well?

Nope. Has its own power cord.

OK - not shutting down to protect the PSU then!
