They're learning how to make this process as cheap as possible within acceptable margins. Those margins being, of course, loss of life. And, those acceptabilities being the number deaths they've deemed acceptable. The fact they keep blowing up rockets means they haven't yet found the lower limits of the deaths:costs ratio yet.

I'm no fan of Elon Musk, but in all fairness, this is the way building a new launch vehicle seems to go. NASA blew up a lot of rockets early on, as well.

Fuck of Nazi. "I'm no fan of Elon" - goes on to defend Elon. Fuck off with this.

How many Saturns blew up?

NASA were learning how to make rockets from first principles. SpaceX has 67 years of NASA's lessons to draw on but it seems determined to re-learn them all itself.

They're attempting to do things NASA never attempted - reusable boosters, bigger launch vehicles, etc.

None of those pesky government regulations, but a lot of our money anyway...

What exactly is not "reusable" on the idea of the space shuttle? Don't frame it as if that shit stain of a human would try anything "revolutionary" new in any capacity. The only thing that makes his shit cheap is cutting corners.
