God DAMN was this an example of the theatrical cut and directors cut being two different movies. Like fuck I walked out of theaters being like "why did half of what three of the main characters do make no sense. One of the main characters has a kid in the move they just cut out entirely! And I'd say they were pretty damn important to the plot!

It's a very good movie. It has some great scenes. But overall just eludes greatness. I think Bloom just wasn't up to the task.

Just in the film's case, it just did not work, between Bloom not being up to the task (and easily outshone by the likes of Edward Norton and Eva Green), Balian's decisions made little sense even with operating with only the knowledge he'd have and not ours - that his inaction (i.e: Guy) is solely to keep our historical events on track.
