I've had kittens do this, they keep their claws extended in their sleep to grip whatever they like. Blankets hold 1st place in most grabbed objects, followed by felt mice, then pants.

I always advise new cat owners to buy a blanket for their kitten. They will become accustomed to it and cherish it their entire life.
