It has a spring in it.

Text on top says Pop Up

It's pretty small. Any ideas?

It looks like a plastic rivet. You find them commonly on newer cars these days in wheel wells, bumpers, trim. Never seen a white one.

It's a turkey or pizza thermometer

What the fuck?! A pizza thermometer? Go the fuck home

No seriously, a Pizza thermometer. They used them for many years with Gino's East pizza's. Feel free to double check me on that one.

I doubt you'll be able to do that after trying to use it

Looks like a "push pin or body clip" for car body parts

Where'd you find it?

It looks like a turkey timer. Push it into a turkey, cook it and when it pops up, your turkey is done.

But, the "Button" is usually red, not white. It's a plastic rivet.

I thought that too, but there's a spring inside it. The button color usually indicates temperature.

Yeah this doesn't stay down when pushed. It just pops back open. I have no idea what this is for.

those two barbs on the shaft? Squeeze in while pushing down the plunger. It will stay. When you release the barbs the plunger will pop up /2

Or it could just be broken and that's why you found it.

The barbs don't go in but that is a dang good catch. I do believe you are correct and I commend your skills.

That's because it pops up when triggered by heat, the catch melts when it hits a specific temp as designed by some engineer
