Doesn't matter what color you use, only that the correct signal is being sent to the correct connection. Read the sticker on the HVAC side and read the Nest manual to figure out what signal(s) should be sent to it.

I'm no electrician but to me it feels like C should be a 'common' live wire that you don't have.
