I have lee valley chisels that I use for nice work, but I keep them razor sharp already. Sharpening my cheap beater chisels here

I find sharpening beater chisels to that level is counterproductive though, they're just going to chip or roll the edge if they're beaters.

No, my point is, if it's a beater it's going to take abuse, which means a more obtuse angle and less focus on razor sharpness is better.

I think we're discussing the quality of sharpening rather than relief angle in this context.
