This trick was invented before Mitch Mconnel even hatched from his egg and they're not actually doing it that well. (please excuse me, I'm a circus snob).
I love when people take ages to perfect a skill with zero practical value. This is the kinda shit everyone could do if we weren't chained to labour for most of our waking lives.
It is not obvious to me at all. I would assume she's tossing the umbrella with one hand while diverting the attention to the other hand, but I don't see any hint that she's doing that.
Haha I guess it's easy to miss the throwing if you're just not looking at the right hand, and easy to mistake the scarf for a beard if you are looking at it. Oops.
They're just tossing it around with their right hand.. the object is pretty light, might not even be an actual umbrella. It's not a rubber band or a magnet.
It's just very, very good sleight of hand: There's a wrist-flicking throwing motion each time. It's easy to see when going frame by frame β and almost impossible to catch when standing there watching it live.
The last time I saw this posted, someone said "IT'S OBVIOUS HOW IT'S DONE! YOU CAN SEE THE FLICK OF THE WRIST AS HE THROWS IT UP" and a bunch of people agreed with them. I can't see him throwing it, and I see no evidence of an elastic band. I think it's done with magic.
Its easier to spot when it goes horizontal. The camera angle being a little more top-down makes it so you can see the elbow moving to throw it. The bottom hand also doesn't block the elbow as much as when the umbrella goes vertically.

I think one of the reasons Expedition 33 has been so successful is that it that it lets you beat up mimes.

It's obvious how it works β but even watching closely, I don't see the moves. This took a long, long time in front of a mirror to perfect.

Rubber bands?
apLundell
At least 95% of this is really good mime skills. Even if the umbrella is gimmicked with a rubber band or something.

Look at his right hand, he's just throwing it.

Yes looks like βsheβ is just throwing it

Rubber band between the right hand and the pointy end of the umbrella?

It's not obvious to me, I think its something to with their right foot/leg.
PowerPedant
It isn't. It's just very well done throwing:

Well, "just" β being so good at it takes very long practice.
zanaria
Sleight of hand most likely, they move the umbrella while making it look like its pulling from their hand instead.

There is no rubber band.
NeurodivergenceMedley
The sheer number of responses so far, indicates to me that it is not, in fact, obvious how it works.
Colopty
They summoned an umbrella-thieving ghost and is using acting to pretend like they're skilfully manipulating the umbrella.
CyberHexx
Rubber band on the wrist attached to the tip of the umbrella. Pull down, then let go and catch in quick succession to look like it's falling up...
PowerPedant
There is no rubber band, it's all just exceptionally well done wrist flicking. Watching it frame by frame makes it easy to see.
DaveSamsonite
This was my quick conclusion as well.
WTT24
It's this. My kid's magic kit has a wand with an elastic for the same trick on a smaller scale.

The trench might be for the purpose of hiding a long rubber band along the sleeve. I haven't yet discarded magic though.
CheeseIsNaturesFudge
I think that is a she. Not to assume though, I suppose.
Rogerwilco1974
Or is that also part of the magic?!
PowerPedant
It IS "just" a wrist flick. It is exceptionally well-done sleight of hand though, hiding all the motions in the choreography.
Going through the video frame by frame makes the throwing motions visible.
UnBobaLievable

I mean she needs to get the umbrella unhooked from those invisible wires.
