No edit button? Let me edit, you cowards!

Is it just me... or is typing a comment on this app a cursed experience?

Maybe it's my age. Maybe my fingers are fatter. Maybe the app is possessed. Maybe it's Maybelline. Probably all four. But like every time I post a comment, something goes horribly wrong.

I'll write something. I'll proofread it. I'll even give myself a little "nailed it" head nod. Then I hit post... and bam! Some random word got autocorrected into nonsense. Or a word duplicated itself like it had something extra to say. Or it looks like I fell asleep mid-keystroke and a cat finished the thought for me.

On a good day, I'll get an upvote, and I eagerly click back to see what brilliant thing I said... and instead I find typos so bad it looks like I sneezed mid-sentence and just hit send.

Bonus chaos if I go over the character limit — then the entire second half of the comment just turns into alphabet soup.

I can accept that's just how technology is today (especially if the reasons are more because of my age or failing eyesight), but the worst part is I can't even edit it afterwards!

So in the meantime, I'm just trying my best to embrace the chaos. If you see a comment from me that makes no sense, just know — I probably *meant* to be clever.

But all I want is a chance to fix it. Just one little edit button. Let me correct my crimes against the English language.

Let me edit, you cowards!

Mine does a weird thing where it just inserts random letters before
I finish typing a word. And it’s not my fat fingers bc the letters are often not near the letter I was typing, and it only does it on Imgur.

Their's just really annoying aspect of imgur.

Oh, I have made peace with sounding like an illiterate idiot most of the times. Sometimes I'll spot my mistake straight away and quietly delete, then repost the comment. But for the rest: grotesque typos abound.

I do think you should be able to edit, until someone responds, upvotes or downvotes. From that point on the comment has joined the collective imgur brain and has become immutable.

This. Immutable after any engagement.

No comment edit, no picture edit after post. For everyone.

My way to edit is, copy post, delete post, create post, make changes. Editing would be nice, but not a requirement when there's a work around.

Nope. No need. Cna't do it. Yuor cmomnets are prefcet as tehy are. Acpcet it.

If you see you messed up something after posting it, copy, delete, paste, correct, repost. If you don't catch it until after somebody replied, let it go.

Mixed feelings about a comment edit button, leaning towards anti. On the one hand, it's been nice when i could edit typos or even tack on a little joke to comments. On the other hand, i've had experiences where i've called someone out on something only to come back later and see they've edited their comment so i look crazy and off-topic. Most of the time i'm not.

Sounds like something someone who is crazy & off topic most of the time would say...

Yup. Definitely wouldn't want somebody to be able to edit to manipulate the past, especially if there's comments that have already been applied. I guess I could just reply to my own comment with a little correction * just to sleep better at night. lol (Though I know *most of the internet* doesn't care. lol)

I definitely think if it's edited it should probably be timestamped and marked as edited.

Maybe we just need better grammar/spellcheck. lol

I'd take edits if it came with a history feature or even an [edited] tag.

Thay's a very good reason. I'll take the occasional L for my typos gladly if it means that nobody can manipulate an argument after the fact.

For me it's going back and changing a sentence before I post which causes me to sound like an idiot most of the time, I'll think of something I wanted to add/rephrase and then it gets weird. Being able to edit comments after posting can end up more trouble that it's worth with a few 'invested' posters manipulating what they said around what others say, unless you add "comment posted at 12:23, edited at 12:35"

I generally don't care enough though, for what is usually a passing "in one ear, out the other" that won't be significant once the post is a day old. Like anything, there are some that take it really seriously though

lolol I feel a bit like that concept where you end up losing more sleep over it than anybody else does. Like laying awake at night going "ugh, did I sound like an idiot saying that?" hahah

But yeah, I'd be totally down for tagging it as edited with a timestamp. Or even being able to edit cleanly after you post if nobody has commented on it yet. (Probably time restricted, like within the first few minutes of posting.) Because as far as I can tell, at least from the mobile app, there's no easy way to copy and paste text, so I gotta start over from scratch when I do delete my comment and try again. haha
