Wow! I have never made it to the front page, so if you feel like it, send me a pic of your bookshelf, I think the kids call it a “shelfie” . Thank you so much.

What they got against libraries

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Reading invokes critical thinking, and that makes those people disgusted with republicans.

I used to be part of the library gang at school - wish we had cool jackets

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You still can! Start a book club and make some jackets my friend.

Also support your school boards who now often have to fight off fascists in their attempts to keep your children ignorant and voting the way they want

"Read to Live, Live to Read" sounds like the title of a song that'd appear in a middle school PSA. I'm all for it.

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Isn’t the guy standing next to him noted Canadian actor and comedian Dan Aykroyd, star of The Great Outdoors, Blues Brothers, and Ghostbusters?

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know. I've never seen him with a scruffy beard like that.

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude rolled up in a Prius he doesn't even own a motorcycle

Excellent jacket! I hope you're enjoying Amish country.

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It is a great jacket! A kiwi staple. Amish-land is amusing in its way, but a comedown from NZ, for sure...and the source, fyi: https://www.etsy.com/shop/OhMyCrown?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=1556341039&from_page=listing&search_query=skull

Your local library?

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeppers

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You could try making suggestions about books to add to their collection.

Get a library card even if you don’t plan on using it. It impacts their funding.

You are the second person today to give me a “Waite a second, i didn’t even know that was a policy” life lesson. I shall be going to Wayzata public library tomorrow and do as you told!

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh that makes sense why they had me get my 4 year old a library card, so we can borrow double the books but it also helps them, win win

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm guessing the new model will be to shut down the libraries that get the most use.

7 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Recently got mine, now I need to go back and actually use it.

Libby, hoopla, and kanopy are all great apps that just require your library card (if your library supports them). Libby for books audiobooks. Hoopla has shows and movies as well. Kanopy is just shows/movies.

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I apparently need to setup a PIN, have to go back and do that.

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Definitely worth it.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And many libraries have awesome digital lending options. My local library has thousands of ebooks, audiobooks, movies, and tv shows available through a couple different services and it's amazing.

7 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I use the Libby app to listen to audiobooks every day... free with a library card.

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

^^ Yes!

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can even get library cards from places you don't live! Fairfax VA is $27 for anyone in the US. Queer liberation library is free for anyone, although their selection is mostly lgbtq+-related

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In a good way, right?

7 months ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Yah, in a good way. It implies to the local people in charge that the public funding used for said location is worth it because they have lots of members. A gym that only has issues a handful of membership won’t stay open so go get that library card and flex your brain until lol it’s got a rippling six pack!

I work for a public library, and while we absolutely want everyone that can to get a library card, our funding is entirely based on property taxes. And due to our very conservative gov't, we only get 40% of our budget due to being "non-essential".

7 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Based entirely on property taxes? Does that make sense in some way I'm too adjective to understand?

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm guessing the same way schools: funding is

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well that just raises further questions! Or the same ones, but pertaining to schools...

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It does and it's easy

7 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Also free audio books!

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Free audio books? How does that work?

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You download Libby the library app and access the files through it

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And if you have a kindle you can borrow e-books and send them right to it. It’s seriously amazing; I finally got back into reading after a long time and I’ve been borrowing every Stephen King book they have, finish it in a couple days, borrow a new one, all on my kindle without leaving the house.
