One-day headboard build

May 6, 2020 5:42 PM

Finished product first. Wife wanted a cushioned headboard. I did my best to oblige.

Starting out. Cut plywood to size. Foam was super expensive at a craft store so I bought two mattress toppers from Walmart. Worked wonderfully. Marked out locations for buttons and cut holes in foam.

Laying out the fabric and creating divots. I used roofing nails with a washer to pin the fabric to the plywood through the holes I cut in the foam.

Wrapped the fabric around the outside and stapled to the back of the plywood. Glued on buttons over nails. Tough to get fabric to sit right, but I'm happy with how it came out. Always room for improvement.

Close-up. A word of advice: don't use a checkered pattern. Solid or anything non-linear would be so much easier to align. We messed about for a while trying to get this straight.

I don't know why but this popped in to my head while doing this post. Now's it's in yours. It's funny. Laugh.
