One of my customers requested a custom order — they sent me a photo of a real spider and asked me to recreate it in glass.Challenge accepted. What do you think of the result?
I think it looks like a real spider — just like the huge, brightly colored, dangerous ones in Australia!!
I cannot comprehend the level of skill to draw such a beautiful, delicate and detailed piece from glass. I bet it sits perfectly level too, with no wobble on a flat surface, which is another thing that goes over my head in regard to how you make that happen.
Beautiful! And scaled about right! The last one of these I saw was almost as big as my hand with legs spread out like that. And I have pretty big hands...
I’ll tell you, I don’t know. My friends and I used to see them up and down the creek as we waited it while fishing. They used to make their webs at the top of cattails. You’d also see them on the sides of houses as well, typically in the country.
Well I thought you were just holding an actual spider in the preview, so congrats on reminding me of the second scariest thing to happen to me at a gas station.
Same. Based on the first pic I was thinking "how tf did somebody manage to get a real life spider to hold still long enough to take a picture to send to this person as a request".
I have seen those spiders. That's actually not that far off. Fortunately they are both very docile and their bite is mostly harmless to humans. (I can completely understand people's "fuckingNOPE" reaction though)

That looks awesome. Have you ever made a skulltula?
DeadnCold
Would you take it as a compliment if I said looking at it makes me want to break out the flame thrower?
ForestNinja101
Absolutely excellent!
EggFooYung
Good enough that I'm gonna nope right out of here now.
Eldibs
Oh man, we have those where I live. When we were kids we would feed them grasshoppers (man, FUCK grasshoppers).

Let me explain how good it is. I can't look at it, knowing it is fully inanimate glass.... still won't work. So, great job! +1

Oh it's glass. I thought it was thigh high Thursday
AuthGaeuvyen
I honestly thought the first pic was the real spider that was used as the reference and not the actual glass one
Manse84
Very impressive. I'm always happy if we get a couple orb weavers like that in our yard, so I wouldn't mind a glass one hanging around.
AlmostClever
Incredible
ChainChompsky
I immediately clocked it as an orb weaver, well done!
mamadoglover99
perfect!!! those are my favorite spiders
NeighborhoodWitch1998
Very disturbing. I'm creeped out by you holding it, so you did a good job creating it in glass. :)
OhIfIMust
That's amazing!!
khaoselement
...how does one obtain one of these from you? How much money must I digitally throw?
FromQueerToEternity
That's fucking spectacular work. Damn.

Thanks.
I was thinking Nephila of some sort. Apparently they're close to Argiope
Moxmox
that's crazy good

Orb weavers are my favorite. I moved one away from my door to a choice location near my porch light. She's almost doubled in size in a week.

Banana spider. Used to see these all over growing up in the Midwest. Quite large, too.
Zahnradfee
They look neat. Can you pet them?

My reaction is to immediately want to set it on fire.
So successful recreation.

I both hate and love this.

Great job. The Orb weavers in my neighborhood are slightly different color. They are relatively harmless.
WhatisBug
I think the markings can be variable... I could be wrong. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argiope_aurantia keep in mind some of these are males https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/67707-Argiope-aurantia/browse_photos
ingridwebb88
Is that a stick bug or a mantis to the left?
boobsalot
Not sure but below that is a black widow

I also thought she was using her hand to show the size of a real spider.

My brother and I would catch grasshoppers/crickets to feed to them.
Gerokeymaster
They make really beautiful webs, too. Golden orb weavers.
