Also, as a reply to the comment I can't reply to below, as a geologist I have to point out most fossils aren't just molds filled in with minerals (except for casts). The original organism's structures (usually hard parts) are replaced molecule by molecule. This preserves the original structure, but not the chemesty. I have a common opal petrified wood specimen I found that is opaque, the cell walls of the original wood are still visible. The details can be amazing.
Also fossils can very much be remains, such as frozen mammoths or mummified materials. Fossils are any trace of past life and even include footprints, poop and burrows.

This is probably the best way to highlight that fossils aren't remains - they're rocks shaped in a remains-shaped mold.
