You never know when you'll need to know how to make a small easily concealable trebuchet

you know, for science!

I'm thinking 9 ...

That's at most a onebuchet

Class, next week, guillotines

Don’t build a trebuchet for social self defense.
Get two friends together, wrap one or more long Thera tape loops around and between them - and you got yourself a giant slingshot. Shoots light projectiles like cans really far, and can be dismantled, hidden or disposed of in seconds.

man, you do NOT want to hesitate after you release that puppy... ouch

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

90 kg is a lot of Molotov cocktails.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That’s neither 300m or 90kg but sufficient for a Molotov

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

yes, as the title implies it cannot move 90kg and can't get it to go 300m

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

300 meters ≈ 980 feet

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

90 kg ≈ 200 pounds or 14 stone

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Is that about a dishwasher?

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's about what the average adult man weighs.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2.6 standard American dishwashers. Do they not teach this conversion in schools anymore? /s

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I reckon I could throw it further. Just saying

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you don't step out of the way fast enough I bet it can launch your testicle up into your throat.

Imagine if that thing caught you in the nards...

I loved high school science fair. My son and his friend built a potato gun one year that used propane and a firing chamber and basically shredded the potato. Shot something more solid like a canon. Next fair they built a compressed air dart/arrow shooter they had to tow in behind a truck. Their arrows went the distance. Shot a golf ball out of it and pretty sure it hit the reserve 5 miles away lol. Basically farm kid towable artillery from farm scrap. No one else would’ve been allowed to do it.

Now imagine 10 of these sized up a little more and aimed at riot police. The ammo choices are endless.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Soup. Soup for my family.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Easily concealable? Not exactly pocket-sized is it.

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

compare it to a full sized trebuchet which can have a throwing arm that's 50 feet long

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think it's not easily recognised, and might fit in a car trunk when disassembled - at which point it just looks like random junk.

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Disassemble it and use the sticks to hold up protest signs.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Perfect siege weapon for protests

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Flamethrowers are *technically" siege weapons. Just sayin'

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

yesssss

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I may or may not have had something like that in mind

5 months ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

what could it be used in a protest for? most situations I can think of, a gun would be much more effective.

5 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

A bucket full of day glow pink paint all over those nice police uniforms

5 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Whatever you do, DON’T add fine grit sand or aluminum oxide to that paint. If they have to wipe off their riot shield and helmets, it can scratch them up…

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can't launch thousands of glass vials filled with nerve gas from a gun.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that's a bit extreme but I love your ambition. I think grocery bag full of poop is more likely. maybe plastic cups full of tobacco spit

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Long range molotov cocktails will make your target focus resources on dealing with the results rather than advancing/attacking. Can also break up a defensive line in a street. Easily and cheaply built, can be abandoned and not easily traced. Can be launched from behind forward lines obscuring source from the opponents on the ground.

5 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Sounds very organized, would be best in my mind to use numbers to split off and cause mayhem in other areas for that then. But I'm not experienced in protesting, just online videos and they never seem to be about taking on the police, just holding out against tear gas and such attacks not sure of the overall goals of them.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

For starters, guns are line of sight only, trebuchet can fire over your own forces

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Guns are going to (unfortunately) be necessary at some point very soon unless things drastically change (doubt)... But even then, just having a pitched armed battle in the street may be the right strategic move... And may not be. When fighting a superiorly armored and armed force (as the police and any of the armed forces who end up supporting the tyrant will be) you'll need to use whatever you can. Molotove cocktails launched by trebuchet from way behind the fronlines are a great support method

5 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Ah, but is so organized, be more effective to split off groups to cause mayhem.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They're necessary NOW. We can stop that bleak future with taking a few losses and eradicating the enemy from top to bottom if we all move out now, armed and willing. If we wait for them to consolidate their power even violence won't save us.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And are you willing to be that loss? You willing to die for it?

I don't disagree with you but most of this country isn't at the point *yet*. We're rapidly getting there and I don't doubt that it's a very likely very near future.

But most people still aren't willing to die for that cause, not yet. And even in the future, most people still won't be willing to, even when it's so bad a large portion of the population has nothing left to loose.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Absolutely. If my life could prevent the Fourth Reich, if I could take every Nazi with me? If I could save my friends and family from what's coming? By the time you read this I'd already be cooling in a pool of my own blood. The hesitation would be so short no one could say I hesitated at all. I'd lead the revolution if I could, if I knew you bastards would actually be following behind me. I hate Nazis more than I love myself. I love the innocent and vulnerable more than I hate Nazis.

launching a container of caltrops into the parking lot where the cop cars are parked around midnight. launching smoke into the line of police so they can't form up and see where to shoot. putting a payload of any kind against a building from a safe enough distance they can't ID you.

That's what she said.

5 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

the first one does seem to go up and then down without going over much but the second one does get some distance. I don't know enough to know what the problem would be. I'm not a terubechologist

I was fighting my inner demons not to answer your wonderful thread, and I lost:
Could you hold this ' and that '. Just in case you want to use them?

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sure. You’’re the best!

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I’m Doctor ItsMeFromtheFuture PhD in trebucheology. The issue is that the slingy thing is not releasing early enough and also late enough provide maximum yeeting of the chunk. By tweaking the angle of the dangle the maximum heat to the yeet can be obtained.

5 months ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

I hate that this makes sense…

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I hate that what you said was actually entirely accurate but phrased EXACTLY wrongly.

5 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Looks like (to me, not a mechanical engineer) the first ones sling was too small "tall" more like a gift bag than a baby sling.

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This is cool and all, but they both missed the guy with the sign.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

90kg in something THAT small. What's that ball made of, neutron star material?

5 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

That's a shot put. Even if it were the maximum size and made entirely of osmium, it would still only weigh just under 26kg. Yeah, that thing doesn't weigh 90kg, that's for certain.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The point is that this pseudo-trebuchet will never be able to toss a 90 kg weight at a distance of 300 meters, like a real trebuchet would.

5 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

A tennis ball sized lump of neutron star material would weigh about 10^13 kg, or 10 trillion tonnes, but not for very long. In the absence of the rest of the neutron star the explosion would be ... impressive ... so your trebuchet really wouldn't need to throw it very far to be a highly effective seige weapon.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love you, man.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 billion tonnes. I did two conversions at the same time and screwed up.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

90kg my ass.

5 months ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 3

You need to go on a diet, like right now.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Your ass 90kg? Hey buddy, mind sitting in this sling for me? I just wanna test somthing real quick.

5 months ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

Yeah. 900g, I'd believe

5 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

That's a shot put. Even if it were the maximum size and made entirely of osmium, it would still only weigh just under 26kg. Yeah, that thing doesn't weigh 90kg, that's for certain. But 900g is less than 1kg, it would have to be made out of plastic to weigh so little.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Americans still can't handle the metric system

5 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

No, but it must be something close to a black hole to be 90kg and be that small!

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's a meme about trebuchets and the smaller version cannot do that. Those are neither 90kg nor being thrown 300m. Google "can throw 90kg 300m"

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol, nope. You're way off. Even just neutronium would be trillions of kilograms at only a few cm across.
