The park service makes money. Why would we want to dismantle it? Oh? I get it.

U.S. national parks are one of the few things that are almost truly the envy of the world. We have parks larger than many nations. Yet the asshats that run our government want to cut them down and sell the lumber because, you know, that's what people really envy. Quarterly earnings.

Parks, government agencies, freedom, safety, and much more. Make Aristocracy Guillotinable Again!

worse is going to be the wholesale cutting of trees for lumber. Trump said there was plenty of lumber in America so they didn't need Canadian lumber. Guess where that lumber is going to come from.

What are you going to do about it? Because Trump and the Department of Government Effluvia is betting that you're going to do nothing.

Has anyone in Congress who represents a district with a national park said anything yet? I have to imagine it's bad for their districts, it's a federally funded tourist attraction that probably creates jobs and generates a ton of tax revenue which should even piss off a Republican.

If the Orange Shitler got his way every wild national park, forest and shrubbery in the States would be turned in to golf courses. His own golf courses.

This is a classic gameplay for ever, a new King takes the crown and in effect ownership of the country they conquered - William the First was the initiator of this at the beginning of the last millennium in Britain - they appropriate land and give it to cronies to build massive palaces on, essentially in the case of the US, never before developed land so that legal ownership is undisputed. He’ll get away with it if you let him.

Not sure it’s this so much as messing with the stock market to benefit his donors. When he announced the tariffs the first time, his billionaire buddies made even more billions from likely insider trading. We’re definitely in the heat of fascism tho.

“Why waste all of this perfectly good lumber?”

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Don'tcha know that 'efficiency' is code speak for the quickest way to get from from the public to the 1%? How have we not learned this and written it in stone yet?

The wanton destructiveness of the Orange Pig Anus and Lone Skum is beyond description. They slash and burn without reason or justification - they just say it's "fraud, waste and abuse" to destroy agencies and people who stand in the way of their greed and corruption. Fuck them and everyone who supports them, or anyone who is too cowardly to stand up to them.

And what are the people going to do? Do we think someone is going to save the day? I’d like say, congress to act, but no. Warfare? Not a great idea. So what’s the plan? I think everyone is as confused as they were in the 1930s/40s about facism. Or today when dictators take over. Like what’s happening and how do “I” fix it? “They” voted. This is what the majority wants. Let them “win.”

The description is rather easy: It's one big yard sale. They are selling almost anything to anyone willing get their hands dirty in this whole business. To get as much personal profit as possible. There is no other or higher agenda behind this

I’ll be honest I’m taking this personally

Looks like they won't stop until we stop them, any ideas ?

Park Protection Militia?

I mean, there are plenty of unemployed people that can be given camping gear and supplied with food, so that they can maintain vigilant protection of the Parks. In fact, this is something that we should be doing to ensure that no company can slip in and destroy the parks while people are distracted. Who's up for a bit of endless camping? Or maybe rotate people in for 90 day tours?

Would you look at that, conservatives doing the exact opposite of conservation. Shocking.

Conservatives don't conserve. At one time they did, but not any more.

I assume a major piece of this is Musk's history of conflict with the National Park Service, which has objected to SpaceX's wanton destruction of bird habitats and such. They've been on his enemies list for years. The NPS must be taught a sharp lesson and the billionaires must be set free to destroy whatever they wish.

Well, he is literally above the law these days.

Last time I engaged here and called out his Texas facility dumping tainted water into local watersheds, the fucking SpaceX Fanclub And Wannabe Rocket Geniuses leapt to defend SpaceX. I don’t understand how it’s so difficult to separate the cool concept of a space-exploration initiate with the government funding sponge that Musk has mutated the company into.

I really wish another Luigi would pop up. Preferably somewhere behind Muskrat. That would be a headline I'd take a drink to.

The current administration is composed of looters and pillagers, they've done away with any independent oversight (firing the IG's) and destroying any protection for whistleblowers. They will continue to steal and destroy things until we rare up and go after them. Then he'll sic his hand picked military on us. Man, I can't believe I just wrote that.

They're too busy censuring Al Green for speaking out during Trump's 2 minutes hate, I mean state of the union.

No, you got it right the first time.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's all the more egregious when you consider that last year, National Park service had one of its best years ever in terms of visitors and overall financial stability. They truly did excellent.

Literally so many people want to go and pay to be there that they have to turn people away to prevent the destruction of natural resources.
