In parts of Canada, Greenland, and northern Europe, a partial solar eclipse will be visible today. Unlike the historical image above, for my location, the ‘gap’ will be at the top of the Sun in this event.

World map with color intensity indicating where this partial solar eclipse will be visible. The most blocking of the Sun by the Moon, from our perspective, will occur in eastern Canada. I will be watching from Europe, however.

3D globe perspective.

The site TimeAndDate has an event page for this, with interactive aspects, for any location of your choosing. So that you may know the exact timing for your specific location.

2D map like the world map image, but zoomed in a bit, and using a different projection (not so ‘flattened’ at the poles).

PSA: Be serious about eye safety. Don’t stare into the Sun unprotected. Besides the overwhelming brightness, there is also UV to permanently damage your eyes for direct light. Get out your eclipse glasses, if you saved them from a previous eclipse event. Only for a total eclipse (100% covered; not this event), can you take off the protection for those few minutes of totality.

Here is a live video feed, for if you are elsewhere on our fair planet, or in a cloudy region, or forced to be indoors. Happy watching! The live feed should begin in 10 minutes or so.

My area was 3%, but just like any other celestial event, it was cloudy

It sucks that I don't have eclipse glasses anywhere.
schrodingerscatfood
Get ’em in the coming weeks for a future event.
Zahnradfee
None over Germany until 2086 or something like that.
schrodingerscatfood
For the path of totality, it will be partial in a wide area around that — if you don’t want to travel for it. The Aug ’26 event will have 88% coverage in Germany.

Neat.

Btw. we had a closed cloud cover here anyway. :(
