Creature Spotlight: Platinum Elemental
Platinum elementals are proud of the value mortals place on their element. They are often at odds with their neighbors the gold elementals about which element is actually the most valued and adored, even though there exist rarer and more expensive elements than either of them, like platinum’s lighter group 10 sibling palladium. Proud and often pompous, platinum elementals almost always refuse to serve as mounts, and they will generally avoid combat and dangerous situations unless one of their lighter platinoid elemental siblings is in danger.
Platinum is remarkably resistant to corrosion, but it dissolves in hot aqua regia, the powerful acid mixture that also dissolves gold, but not ruthenium or platinum’s neighbor iridium. In nature, platinum is very rare, but still common enough for mortals to discover, mine, and use for centuries. Early on, mortals confused most of the other platinoid metals for platinum, believing them to be a single element.
