Creature Spotlight: Rubidium Elemental
Rubidium is a rare, soft, silvery-gray alkali metal that’s even more reactive than its lighter siblings, potassium, sodium, and lithium. Unlike its lighter alkali metal siblings, rubidium is denser than water, but it reacts with water even more violently than potassium, igniting the hydrogen produced by the reaction.
Rubidium elementals are as reactive and as dangerous as the element they embody, and they will almost always rush into battle if provoked. Rubidium elementals are particularly hard to approach, let alone control, but daring mortals might attempt to befriend one. A few suicidally brave mortals of small stature have been known to attempt to ride a rubidium elemental, usually with explosive results.
Rubidium is so reactive it ignites spontaneously in air, producing a violet-colored flame that closely resembles the flames of burning potassium so much that only sophisticated tools or magic can tell the two flames apart. Rubidium forms alloys with gold and iron, as well as with all its alkali metal siblings except lithium and francium. The tiny lithium elementals are often angry about this fact (as they are about mostly everything), while the extremely radioactive and heavy francium elementals are too unstable to even contemplate creating compounds.
