Now that you have pulled up the stump what’s your plan dude? Burn it I guess? I just pay to have stumps ground up like a normal person

That's a sweet bronco!

A small percentage chance of seeing a guy get cut in half. These videos give me the heeby jeebys.

All the cable links and the winch itself have factory limits they won't go past so as long as it's not been tinkered with the cable should far surpass the tensile strength the winch can create given it hasn't seen any previous damage

I was 90% sure he was going to catch a chain with his face.

I dig it, but that's why my back hurts

Yep, that’s your root cause.

Really should have a damper on the cable, even a jacket would help. It keeps the cable from snapping back if the cable breaks

This looks a lot like the way I almost dropped a tree on my truck. This is one of those, "it worked, and it's a damn good thing it did, because it was also stupid and you could die" things

Can't locate it now, but a video was posted here of a truck straight pulling a stump (with no tire to change the angle) using one of those stretchy snatch straps. When the stump came out of the ground, that snatch strap contraction sent that stump flying through his rear window.

This method avoids the risk of a strap/chain breaking: https://youtu.be/wulu46idf4w?si=KwqvjWYdjQ6HxDt7

Call it "physics" all you want, that's an extremely dangerous approach to removing stumps.

Oppenheimer nervously looks away...

"I've done it a dozen times." It only takes one time for that chain to slip and your top half being separated from your bottom.

Physics doesn't exclude danger.

This is the best reply ever

Physics IS the danger! *evil laugh*

would really suck if that chain snapped loose an came flying back

I love all of the soft recovery systems. Still dangerous, but not nearly as much. My kit consists of 4 soft shackles, a soft strap and a bridal. I'm confident being on either side of the recovery

Yeah, I wouldn’t be standing where he was.

Was expecting it to hit the windshield...

Isn't this why most winches have corded controls or wireless even?

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I think he has to, to control it?

The cord is always rated way higher than the winch can pull

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but the chain is loosely wrapped around the stump and probably not as strong as the winch cable

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It should be rated as stronger but it ain't my winch so who knows!
