With the backplane case complete, it's back to the server part of the build, i.e. the pi5 and add-on cards.

Left to right: SAS external port, rpi5, PCIe switch (PEX8724), SAS ctrl (9400i), 10GbE NIC (X710)
Missing: Fans, slot adpt standoffs, power cabling, and the internal SAS cable. I plan to design conduits for the final print.

It was tough finding an m.2 adapter that didn't make the pi too tall for 1U. I ended up going with a bottom mounted m.2 adapter and an m.2 to Oculink SFF-8612 adapter, which is the thinnest connector that supports PCIe. The slot adapters use the slightly larger u.2 SFF-8643 standard, so the cable from the Pi to the PCIe switch is a Oculink SFF-8612 to u.2 SFF-8643

PiNAS case is split in 2, attached mechanically via dovetail cutouts, and then the seams are chemically welded.

No lid yet, but it will cover the gap above the Pi when installed. The clearance was so small that I just left the cutout open rather than printing the thin bridge

Inside surface is coated in MG Chemicals "Total Ground" conductive paint. It was brushed on so it won't win a beauty contest, but it does its job of stopping static buildup and providing a case ground. I plan to get the spray next time.

Heh, PiNAS.

You just know the name came first, and then the implementation. As it should.

No pineapple or coconut. Not even a squirt of lime. This PiNAS Colada recipe sucks.
