My PiNAS project part 42, up and running with a new case and a new glow

It glows ;D
That was not intentional but I like it. I just happened to choose natural PLA for this prototype print; Its translucent nature creates a neat effect though.

Previous post going over why the cables are so chaotic: https://imgur.com/gallery/OIWh6ba The short is that the high-speed differential bundles only come in a few sizes and are very stiff.

I hadn't designed a hole for the external SAS and power input because I needed to get a visual idea of the cable situation. Well I have that info now, but for this print, I had to get creative with a soldering iron and edge cutters ;)

The lid for now is just the lid from the v1 design, flipped upside down and weighed down against the top of the case. The final design will have a proper lid ofc

SSD temps under load (rear,front,front)

SAS Controller temp
I'm satisfied with these numbers. The noctuas are very quiet too :)

Phone cameras suck at low-light, so it's a little brighter in-person, somewhere between this video and the first pic. The occ green blinking on the left are the SSDs. The yellow glowy parts are the PCIe slot LEDs

Isn't that a little warm for pla? Petg maybe for a little extra thermal range ?

PLA softens at 60c, but that 53c is the actual die temp, and there's quite a bit of distance before the radiated heat hits the PLA. Either way though, I'm only using PLA for prototype prints. The final print will be ABS

Ooh. You have sone of those... Heated chamber printing capabilities. Noice

It's very DIY, but yes :) P1S with a hotbox, modded bed heater, and fan curves to regulate chamber temp. Even pulled off warp-free PolyCarb with the setup /gallery/yMki6sD

That is impressive. I have a brand new k2plus standing in my garage waiting for me while I'm in hospital. Can't wait to be able to try some of the more engineering orientated filaments. Although Adam savage posted a vid of his new nylon printer setup and I'm super jealous
