Theres just so much god damn math and things people just don't think about that you have to deal with SHORT term - let alone long term to make a place livable for extended periods of time. Mars lacks a magnetic field to protect it from radiation. You meed extensive radiation shielding to live on Mars. Even if you somehow made a breathable atmosphere, the lack of magnetic field would allow it to slowly strip away. We do not have the technology to create a planetary magnetic field.
