sometimes you get someone who wants to bail two weeks in, and you have to do the entire thing yourself.

It's useful experience either way. Everyone should get a taste of both. But a problem arises due to academic performance being loosely tied to your future income. People who are learning need to be able to experience failure, but in at least the American school system, any failure is punished. It's absurd. It's perverse.
