Upgrading to Ps4 from a 360 yesterday. Had the exact same problem.

I was fluent in super nintendo and it took me years to become fluent in play station.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Press X to pay respects.

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

These games are just pushing your buttons aren't they

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Toil of the peasants eh?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Play games on PC then

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That Playstation 1 Controller tho. Best Layout ever. have one at home here too. take my +1

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As someone who spent his teen years using a Dreamcast controller...I'm glad I'm not the only one who has to do mental gymnastics for QTE's+1

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I can't be the only one who doesn't struggle to adapt to new controllers? Surely?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

No, and stop calling me Shirley.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Who told you to play ALL of them you filthy whore!?

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Super Nintendo is the right one.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Please, game designers. Stop inventing new buttons. Just stick with the SNES design.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

So basically a playstation controller? because that's how it was born, same lay-out.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Super Nintendo was way before Playstation, so no.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

... no shit. The playstation controller is a modified snes controller, playstation was born as a nintendo/sony collaboration.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Right. What was your point again?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

*looks down at keyboard* I'm gonna have to disagree Op

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nothing in the world is more stupid than Nintendo controllers.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Anybody else still have half-a-dozen old consoles connected to an old CRT tv?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep. NES, SNES, Jaguar, PS1, Gamecube on an old Sony Trinitron CRT and anything newer (PS2, Xbox, PS3, Xbox360, Wii) on my LCD-TV.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would friend you so hard if you lived close.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Substitute the Jaguar for a N64 and this is my same setup. Apart from a Ps3 which I never got around to buying. I need a Jaguar and a Saturn

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

PS owner. Went round a mates to play Resi5 on XB. Cutscene, press X. We died so many times.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like Xbox 360 controllers the best, ps controllers are too small and thin, I want it big a thick..

On a PC? Wherever the fucking hell I tell it to. #PCMR

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Whatever I set it to? I'm fond of using ASZX as my "face buttons."

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I use 5123 on numpad and WASD for DPAD. (Y)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

my USB gamepad?

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

And if they tell me to press it, I'll rebind it.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Really? Cause mine is below the D key.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Mine is below my D key.

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

QAZ WSX EDC No.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

360 best layout ever. According to a survey I just made up

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 9

I love the analog stick on the 360 controller because it makes sense, but the D-pad was completely useless for everything.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

did you know 74.34% of statistics are made up?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Best layout, I agree with. Too bad that d-pad ruined so many experiences for me.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Dunno why but for some reason I don't have that problem.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Pff, I play on PC with a PS controller while receiving XB prompts.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Now try playing a Japanese version of a game where they tell you to press O in every instance where you would press X.

10 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

That did make it to the US with Metal Gear Solid and it's sequels. Was reaaaaaally confusing.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hated that in Final Fantasy Tactics

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

is that just for games on playstation?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, other systems used this to varying effect.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In Japan O is the equivalent of a tick mark so it means yes while X is a cross meaning no.

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Neat!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That actually makes more sense

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's always the blue one. In every one of these pictures.

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

Because not all of them have A B Y, but all of them have X. It was just for an example and the only shape on the PS that you can type on kb.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

O

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Sure, now please point out where "O" is on the Xbox360, Gamecube and SNES controllers. Right. You're not very clever, are you?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 10

You said, "only shape on the PS you can type on a KB" and now you shift the goal posts and insinuate I'm not clever.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Also, there's no EASILY TYPABLE character other than X on our keyboard. Alt codes don't count since you'd have to know it, not google it <_<

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 9

It's called context mate. It's used all over the world. For comparison sake, allt he controllers have to have a common character. X is it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 9

Gamecube controller doesn't have a blue button.

I personally wouldn't consider it blue, but hey. Opinions.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Y and x appear to be blue in the pic. Assuming that's what was meant

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

They're grey IRL

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Good call

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's what I figured, but they're wrong. Upvoted you back to one, because your comment makes sense.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

X is blue

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 7

It depends on controller colour. I have a silver system and controller, and both the X and Y are grey, as mentioned by the other response.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No, it's grey.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

In the picture above it is blue compared to y

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm having horrible dress flashbacks.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And by the time I look down at my controller to determine which one is blue . . . game over.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Don't look, feel. Use your instincts. Let the for- er, I mean, the game flow through you.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

press blue.

10 years ago | Likes 472 Dislikes 9

That's exactly how that works for Xbox/PC with controller games. The "X" is at the top, heathens!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Am i the only one that says the colour and not the letter when teaching people how to do stuff in a video game?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

as a Melee player, THERE IS NO BLUE!?!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Both Y and X is blue in Gamecube controller.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which one is blue? D:

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that would be Z for NGC and while super famicom had color buttons, SNES didn't, was bluish-gray, or slightly darker bluish-gray

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I thought the exact same thing. I feel less needy now.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That still gets me on xbox because as an english/left to right reader I ALWAYS think the red "B" (for "back") should be where the x is. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 And red also usually represents "cancel", "back", "undo" etc...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dreamcast.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

RIP

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

X is gray on Gamecube and DS

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

european snes was blue, american was lavender for X and Y and purple for A and B. Shit sucked. Europe got the super famicom style - lucky.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

X sure gets...around.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My first console was a playstation, if I don't have an xbox controller in hand, I end up using PS buttons to tell people how to 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 3

My first was the SNES, so I inevitably tell people ALL the wrong buttons on 360.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My first was the NES so that was "a" "b"

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

do things on an xbox game. "Push the 'X' button. No the other 'X' button." 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 1

Me too!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Except for the first console part. I had an atari.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Me too! *high five for the 2600*

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dunno what OP is talking about, X is right where it's always been. Right between Z and C.

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 5

Funny info, qwerty was invented to purposely slow down typists. Now though it's so prolific that alphabetical keyboards are odd (So I heard)

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

True story!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Alphabetical keyboard layouts are even more inefficient than qwerty. You want efficiency, try Dvorak for example.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That crop job made me twitch..

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not sure I see what you mean

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

the one on the left has x on the left etc

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thanks for clearing that up

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On xbox they are letters, on playstation they are shapes. So it's actually saying "press cross" -source im a qa tester and fun at parties.

10 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 4

As a developer, you're doing God's work.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The funnest

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plus the shape originally had specific meanings when the controller was designed.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Circle meant confirm and cross meant decline which is why the japanese playstations have reversed controls than the us ones.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

+1 for knowledgating a Sony fan that never knew this.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The cross really should've been the red one then.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The circle button always looked orange to me.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Red is a positive color in east Asia.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Red still means stop on their traffic lights

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And square was meant to bring up menus...

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Triangle was for camera (before an analog stick was added) if I'm not mistaken.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Camera, and at one point, I think navigation.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Metal Gear games keep this in the English versions, which always messes with me to no end

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Not anymore :(

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll admit I haven't played 4, but I'm replaying 2 and 3 right now which is what reminded me, haha

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

GameCube was the best because each button felt different.

10 years ago | Likes 762 Dislikes 28

the gamecube controllers fit with the general positions you would have your thumb in. if you hold your hand limp it goes to the large a key.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We called the A button the "Do" button

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

And that's what you play Smash Brothers on, goddamnit! :D

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I mean, to be fair, "up" "left" "right" "down" is pretty easy to tell the difference from...

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The gamecube itself was really merely an OK console but hawt damn, the controller was top tier.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Some games (mostly fighters) assume you can press any arbitrary combination of three or four buttons. It kind of falls short in that area.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

I read this comment in a little kids voice

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

The gamecube controller is the equivalent of a baby born in fucking chernobyl

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Really? I always hated the gamecube controller. I always liked the PS2 Dual Shock controller, and the Xbox One controller much better

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Even more specific, the wave bird for the Gamecube is the best controller ever

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I thought gamecube was by far the worst controller of them all, even worse than bulky original x box...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My only real complaint is the tiny d-pad and stupid-shaped c-stick. Two matching analogs and a large d-pad and I'm happy.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I always thought it was the worst, the button configuration made for less diverse gameplay. Snes 4 life!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

This is a seriously undervalued and ignored aspect. All buttons having a different shape as well as color/letter is so helpful.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

N64 FOR LYFE!!!!!!

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

How I held it

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

i usually held it with my hands on each of the far sides with the cstick somewhere i could conveniently press it into my body and shift

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The claw!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No, it was the worst. You'd hit A accidentally over and over. Plus the triggers were unresponsive.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 19

You're right

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Downvote me all ye want, at least I'm not looking back on the controller with nostalgia goggles.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It fit just right in my hands, and the shoulder triggers made such a satisfying sound...

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

They were dual action. Pressing them slightly activated 1 function, pressing it all the way triggered another.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yup! I believe one was a digital switch and one an analog.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

CLKCLKCLCKCLKCLCKCLCKLCCKCLKCLCKCLCKCLKCLCKCLCKCLKCLCKC

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

GameCube maybe my all time fav

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Too bad the GameCube controllers never had that long of a life span. My Sega Genesis and N64 controllers are still going strong.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 15

Huh? My gamecube controllers are still in perfect working condition

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Please, my Gamecube controller I got from the box is still kickin after 6 years.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Awh man, I wish mine held up that long! Best controller configuration, but mine never seemed to last...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, they always were my favorite controllers, and I just couldn't get used to the double-triggers that all the other controllers had.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And you can go more easily from the main button to the other 3.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Absolutely , wierd how much sense that made

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I like the GameCube controller, but do you all really get lost using 4 buttons?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

its not that you get 'lost' otherwise, the GC controller just felt so obvious and organic, eps. after that N64 fork-thing

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Always felt it was the best designed controller out of the lot. I know a lot feel the same way

10 years ago | Likes 190 Dislikes 13

soz, but I always enjoyed the snes button arrangement. I felt that gamecube's A button was too large, and the B button too far from X and Y

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

There are dozens of us!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Try Dreamcast controllers

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Those were perfect for hunching over and resting your elbows on your knees.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That wavebird: felt so substantial!

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Yeah I could finally play from my couch without having to drag the console to the middle of the room!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I like it a lot, but that c-stick, d-pad, and those triggers are all sub-par. No single controller has ever gotten everything right yet.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I would agree, but for pure button layout and comfort, I think I'd go with the Gamecube 'troller. Everything seems within such easy reach

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The xbox 360 controller bested the gamecube controller for me solely because it was big enough to comfortably bit my hands xD

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Xbox 360 controller is IMO the best designed. Gamecube always felt weird, esp with the C-stick...

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Xbox 360 and best designed? with that shitty useless d-pad..?!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

C-stick was a little awkward but i still liked the controller better in general to the 360 controller.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It had maximum convenience and easiest use.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The c stick kinda sucked though and so did the triggers, still better than PlayStation though.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Nah. The triggers molded to your fingers near perfectly. The c-stick I can grant you may be a preference thing.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For me it was Gamecube, Xbob360, Playstation, Jaguar, SNES, NES (in that order with the last two taking the crown for crappiness/handcramps)

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

You must have not tried the N64 then.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

never had one, never wanted one

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 9

*xbox .. dammit

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Atari 2600 for the handcramps.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Jaguar?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Atari Jaguar. Ancient (1993) console that was competing with the Sega Genesis/Megadrive, SNES and later to some extent the PS1

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought it was a commercial failure.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have clearly never played a dreamcast or a saturn.. handcramps and a slew of bruises from both.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Never had either of those consoles. Can't believe they're supposedly worse than the original NES handcramp/sore thumb "controller"..

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's the sharp ass handgrips that jut straight DOWN

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

DC handcramps?! One of the best controllers imho. Looks clunky as hell, but the design gives it a nice grip.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Must just have big hands then.. it was not comfortable

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The "looks clunky but nice grip" is the same for the Jaguar controller, despite people online mocking it.They've probably never held one IRL

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What, no Nintendo 64?

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 5

Like I said in my other comment which got downvoted to -2 for no reason: never had one, never wanted one. Just didn't appeal to me at all.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 12

Plus, the comment with the "controller ranking" is only about the systems I've had / still have. Can't rate it if I've never used it.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

there now this one has been brought back up to -2 from -3 because people are fucking retarded.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

-6 points for just stating that I didn't like one ancient console and never bought one. God imgur is retarded sometimes..

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

poor babeee gawt dunvotes....

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

Ah yes, perfect for my third hand

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It was innovative, but the control stick quality was poor and wore out easily with heavy use

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

It was a big deal because having a worn-out control stick completely changes the gameplay. I recently replaced a stick on one of my 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

controllers and it was like rediscovering certain games again, especially platformers (SM64, Banjo Kazooie)

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You can get GameCube-esque replacements on Amazon for $9/piece. All you need is a #1 and #0 Philips screwdriver and 5-10 minutes.

I'm fluent in making the panties drop. (No I'm not). Goes and cries in the corner alone*

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know PlayStation the best, then XBox because a lot of my friends have them, then GameCube cuz it's been a long time since I've had one

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm only fluent in two :(

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Im fluent in swearing!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I call bullshit

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

same, only time i have trouble switching is when i played a single game for a 72 hour binge.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah but then I have problems switching to any control scheme other than what I was just using anyways.

I grew up with playstation 2 and Xbox. I was fluent in both controllers. I then got a ds and relearnt layout, maintaining fluency. (1

Exactly!

I was such a SNES kid that whenever I play XBox I STILL struggle because the entire right side of the controller feels ass-backwards to me.

I play ps3 and ps4, my fiancee plays Xbox One. When I occasionally play with her I always have to look at the controller. RB/RT = confusing.

Just do this: RB=R1, RT=R2. Remember that, and you'll be great! :D

Right bumper and right trigger is what they stand for. Not so confusing when you keep that in mind.

Despite growing up with the NES and SNES (and still play them regularly), I automatically think of Playstation controls even though ->

-> I haven't had a new Sony console since the PS2. I primarily play 3DS or 360 nowadays as far as semi-new things are concerned. <3 the N3DS

I mess up the nintendo controllers every now and then... even though they've had the same ABXY placement since SNES to Wii U/3DS...

with the exception of the gamecube, it's the rebel child.

Gamecube, Wii, and GB series, I guess. So I guess half of the controllers have had the same configuration... SNES, Wii U, DS, 3DS

I never owned an N64, but I know the other three. I recently had to play a PS4 after using an XBox controller for awhile, & it did throw me.

That's a Gamecube controller

WHATEVER MAN I DIDN'T HAVE ONE OF THOSE EITHER

Easy, man. You should check them out. Great systems.

I suppose if I actually looked at the picture I could have deduced that. You win this round. Actually I'd love to play Eternal Darkness.
