This is from 25 Years ago, it's only got worse. Imagine the energy saved from only having lights ON when actually needed, the vast majority are only ON because it's dark and they activate automatically. (Also, TROPHY!!)

Light pollution. Also a good idea to focus light down and not up.

I just had our power company disconnect the "security" light on a telephone pole that stayed on all night every night by the house, saving $4 a month and keeping our town a little darker. Yay earf
