The scientific name of this small insect is Flatid Planthopper Nymph (a flatid from the superfamily Lanternitaceae). It lives in the tropical forests of Ecuador. It is covered with white waxy growths, which are secreted by special glands on the abdomen of the insect. The waxy growths are hydrophobic, and serve the animal for protection and camouflage.

Imagine your container of cotton balls just turn into a bunch of these things crawling around

More of a cotton ball IMHO, but I'm not dying on that hill.

In the early 2000s it was huge for chicks to wear this goofy ass lip gloss…these bugs would constantly get stuck on their lips

"It's called fashion; look it up!" -- that little bug, probably.

If you've seen Attack of the Killer Klowns from Outer Space, this insect may be frightening.

Plant hoppers have the most insane looks. Some even look like helicopters!

They don't have that same satisfying *crunch* though.

I'm happy to live in an age where we have synthetic popcorn to eat. Can't imagine sitting down with a whole bowl of these things

Neat.

I wonder if it tastes like popcorn

My guess. It’s crunchy!

I thought my movie date ate all my popcorn, I guess I owe her an apology. *In a theater, right now, an usher is trying to sweep up popcorn kernels that keeps running away from the broom!

Looks like the real culprit was just trying to escape the drama of the movie!

wtf does that camo blend in with? A pile of cotton, snow, cocaine, more cotton, popcorn, straw wrapper spitballs, mayonnaise, pocket lint?

8 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Apparently it's a hydrophobic egg pouch.

all of the above

Other popcorn bugs

Hmm. Makes sense. Hide amongst a crowd. That’s a good way to avoid the fuzz
