Blue arrow is where tub leaks (bad washer/gasket with the nut? Red arrow shows missing but but connection is packed with some sort of putty/sealant. 1970’s home. I replaced the drain gasket and applied new plumbers putty. Leaked stopped from that area but has now relocated to that lock nut

Here’s the drain assembly up to the stopper in the tub

Notice the bead of water around that galvanized lock washer… should I replace the gasket or go ahead and replace the entire assembly based on any photo evidence you might notice?

I'd demo out all the old plumbing with an acetylene torch and rebuild from there.

2 screws and a ratchet cutter and I can have that entire assembly dropped and replaced, probably!

Replace the entire assembly. It’s inexpensive and easy

That’s what I thought. For less than $30 and using tubular plumbing, can’t get any easier than that. Hard part is climbing back thru crawl!

Is it though?

It really is cheap. Less than $30 for a kit, the hard part is crawling back thru crawl space a d taking apart the old
