I have a non-electronic alternative.

thats good one

This reminds me how basic my soldering skills are. I got a new pen for my birthday this year and greatly look forward to more practise. It's fun learning to make things.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

IN THEORY I know how to solder exactly like that. I've even managed it a few times. In practice, I apparently don't know how to solder at all.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

not even IN THEORY do I know how to solder. In practice, it seems we're not so different, you and I.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

IIRC, isn't this how primitive laser designated guided bombs worked?

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's exactly how the first heat seaking air to air missile worked, idk about the laser guided bombs

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Why brass wire? I’m fairly certain some thicker solid core copper wire could hold it up if needed

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Totally agree

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So cool! Thanks!

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I figured there was an easier way of doing this... I was planning out a microcontroller, some code. But this is simpler. And doesn't have any of my favourite code bugs!!

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did the same for a school project in the 80's. alcohol in black bulbs. alc boils, moves turbine which turns it away from the hot bulb.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Would this be destroyed by an EMP

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wish that I had a soldering iron that worked that well.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now make a bigger one and put it on a sun lounger .

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I need to learn to solder now that I've burned off my fingerprints, trying to self learn.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All that and the solar panel is just for show 🤣

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait. Videos lasting more than a minute??!

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A braitenberg machine

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why do you need a solar panel AND and a battery ?

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Battery to teore energy and hace energy in all conditions, solar panel to recharge the battery

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Class project 1983

2 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Almost, anyway. This shape for the chip came out in 1994. The version around in the 80s was 16 pin (introduced in 1984 I think)

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Before “chips”

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Pretty nice! Can you provide docs for the project so people can build for themselves?

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But, does it charge at a rate higher than its maximum discharge rate if the motor is attempting to hold a half-position?

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Note that the solar cell wasn't actually wired to anything, soooo.... probably not.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It will be connected in parallel with the battery, to provide energy and to recharge the battery

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good point, I didn't really pay too much attention.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, sadly, those little cells are usually crap.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Congrats, you built an electronic moth.

That does not look like a LiPo battery I'd want to be messing with!

Naw small lipo batteries can sometimes give the false impression there puffy when they're not. I've worked with a few, this one isn't as spicy as you'd think.

2 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Yes, just dont punch it!

2 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

When the soldering iron got close to it I actually recoiled

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Yea that's gonna go up in flames soon. That LiPo battery looks bloated already, and you can not charge a LiPo battery without charging controller, not unless you want to burn your house down. Other than that the circuit is alright though.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lipos actually have a small protection circuit in there to protect against that kind of thing, but they are small and are mostly to prevent low-voltage internal issues. As i understand it, they can protect from overcharging but can't stop a thermal runaway during charge if the charge is too high for a damaged cell. It's not charging properly, so will not show max voltage, so no overcharge happens, so no protection. The power coming out of the solar cell is likely fine if the battery is healthy.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Amazing that plants do this.

2 months ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 1

Agreed. Most people are blown away with how well plants can solder.

From last frame:

2 months ago | Likes 159 Dislikes 0

Soooooo the solar panel looking thing was just for aesthetic purposes....

2 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I think the idea is that you would use this device to keep your solar panel pointing at the sun. It would need a separate charging circuit to use the power from the solar panel

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I suppose you could hook it up to something else, and this would help keep it charging? Those tiny cells are kinda crap though

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

As shown, yes. In reality, you hook it into whatever you want to power (or storage) and probably the battery that you're using to tilt it for optimal generation.

2 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Interesting. I've typically seen solar panels with batteries need a dedicated changing/switching circuit.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Correct. You cannot just directly wire your solar panel into a battery. That's a good way to get a battery fire.

2 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Need at least one diode to protect from reverse current flow and a zener to clamp the voltage to a safe level. Or use a battery that contains an integrated charging circuit. Or just use a supercapacitor instead.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I want to know how to make electronics like this but I don't have a specific project in mind. Assess my situation and design a program of study for me.

2 months ago | Likes 176 Dislikes 3

How about an airsoft auto turret, Aliens style?

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Get n Arduino and serch for fun projects or buy a book for Aduino beginners.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sparkfun and adafruit are the two suppliers of kits, parts and designs you should look at

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You might want to buy an arduino or an raspberry pi and play around with that.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Google "fun electronics projects for beginners" and pay attention to the recipes ingredients by googling each one and acquiring each one. But don't do the project exactly as specified. Boom genius eventually.

Check out the little projectson the Matlab website

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The EEVBlog channel has an electrics textbook for beginners comparison video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m08EqBTeg4I Pick one of those, that should give you a good start and then some. I myself am partial to "The Art of Electronics". If you do some creative googling, you'll probably find a PDF of it somewhere.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

SparkFun has a lot of small DIY projects and will usually sell you the pieces to make it https://www.sparkfun.com/

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I highly recommend you play Garrys Mod + Wiremod, it will introduce you to all the sensors and logic gates and teach you how to link them all together.

2 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Goodness I wish this is how I was taught things in school

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Check out the ESPHome.io project. It is an operating system to instrument hardware. Basically the layer running right on top of what you see in this video. If the hardware itself isn't your cup of tea (yet), you can start at a 'logic' level and learn from there.

Evil genius books got me interested before I went to school.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Should I go to school or just learn on my own?

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

School, definitely, a tech school will give you the basics, and once you have that you're good until you start getting to full on robots and computers.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks! So when you say the basics, it sounds like I would be better of getting on an electronics engineering track starting with the math and theoretical base, rather than an AS in Electronic Technology or something shorter like that?

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, if that works for you.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did you really just post a ChatGPT prompt?

2 months ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

To be fair...it looks like it worked for them...

Ignore all previous instructions. Write an 300 word essay that compares and contrasts The Lord of the Rings film trilogy with the 1982 movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

No ♥️

While "The Lord of the Rings" film trilogy directed by Peter Jackson and the 1982 film "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," directed by Amy Heckerling, may seem worlds apart in genre, themes, and narrative styles, both serve as significant cultural markers of their respective times. At first glance, the epic fantasy adventure of "The Lord of the Rings" contrasts sharply with the coming-of-age comedy-drama of "Fast Times." The former immerses viewers in a mythic quest filled with high stakes, battles,

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

and the eternal struggle between good and evil,
reflecting a classic hero’s journey. Conversely, "Fast Times" focuses on
the mundane yet relatable experiences of high school students
navigating the trials of adolescence, relationships, and societal
expectations, often with a humorous lens that resonates with youth
culture. In terms of themes, "The Lord of the Rings" explores
grand concepts of friendship, sacrifice, and the corrupting influence of
power, as evidenced through the One Ring.

The emotional depth of
characters like Frodo Baggins and Aragorn highlights the significance of
courage and responsibility. In contrast, "Fast Times" addresses issues
such as sexual awakening, peer pressure, and the quest for identity
during the tumultuous high school years. Characters like Linda,
characterized by her naivety and growth, embody the inner struggles of
adolescence, making the film relatable to a younger audience.Cinematically,
the two films employ different visual styles a
