This is going to trigger some conservatives hard so true though. If you ever get a chance to volunteer with underprivileged children you should, even if it's just for a couple hours. You will find the smartest, kindest kids who just want to make you smile even though they don't have electricity or food for dinner or jackets in winter. You'll see kids that would have gone to Harvard if they'd been born into middle class
My wife was born into poverty with an abusive mother. I admire the hell out of her for being able to get out of it, but I'm tearing up thinking about what she could have risen to had her situation been different. She's the smartest person I know, but instead of being wealthy because of it, she has a $50k student loan debt and a fairly meager wage.
Oh, and in school she vehemently and closely competed with her friend for best grades in class all the time. His parents were rich. Guess who came out into the working world with a higher salary.
I see it all the time, these kids are whip smart when you sit down one on one with them and walk them through the project. And they are so hungry for attention and love, they'd walk through fire if you asked them to. Helped tona get into college and good jobs, no one ever told them the right equation for the system

The harshest part is all the privileged kids giggling like it's a game while their classmates are melting behind them.
