I used to maintain NiCad batteries and we had to keep close look out for thermal run aways when discharging and charging.

Never had it happen thank god. We also maintain sealed lead acid batteries. It has been awhile but I want to say they were both 12 cells

the newer chemistry in those will not burn like older lipos. The event is already over as it puffed up the bag. Its not a bomb anymore.
