*nod* I run an instance of HA Core (because I like to go insane) on a Pi 4s blade in a Turing Pi 1. I love the application, it's so addictive. And you have room for a Z-wave USB when the time comes :-)

I mainly made the case so the zigbee stick doesnt flop around, but maybe I could put a docker in there too to add some services? Just not so sure how much a pi5 will be able to handle. This combination is more due to me getting my hands on a discount pi and being fed up with the previously virtualized HA install crashing constantly, than any real planning :P

Hm. I was running about 80 devices total (wifi, LG, Opower, Zigbee, Z-Wave, and Roomba) on a Pi3s with 1gb of memory, then moved to a Pi4s with 1gb then finally a pi4s with 8gb of memory (the system started to swap with only 1gb memory). With 8gb memory a Pi 4 is totally fine, I'd say a Pi5 would be insanely perfect. No lag, no latency, runs great. Also I use ZHA which works fine on pretty much everything I have.

Nice, I like the rPi case, did you print it too?

Ok, I had not seen that style before. Are you using this for home assistant?

yup, it was super simple to set up with the pi-imager having a home assistant image and everything for the raspi 5

just flashed the image, clicked import, and everything just worked. Way better than the vbox i was running before.

I’ve got it running in a vm with the same dongle. Haven’t had much time to mess with it yet, still using apple home kit for most things
