Recently picked up a vintage NIB IBM PCjr joystick and converted it to gameport

The completed mod to the joystick. The next step will be to connect the matching port to a Raspberry Pi Pico to adapt the gameport to USB to use with a vintage gaming PC I'm putting together. I know that I could have bypassed the gameport connection and gone straight to USB with the Pico, but I wanted to option to use other gameport joysticks with the PC later.

The joystick as it came out of the box.

The proprietary PCjr joystick plug.

The wires plugged into the DB-15 plug to adapt the joystick to gameport based on wiring I found on the Vogons website.

I got one of those for my wife back in 1993. She was disabled with weak muscles. She used that thing until it died around 1998. At least games moved to mouse driven around then.

This looks a lot like the joystick from Radioshack!

From what I understand, the IBM PCjr joystick is nearly identical to the Tandy 1000 and Kraft joysticks from the same time period but with different plugs. The wiring inside is also slightly different on the Tandy.

Those joystick were also used for the Tandy Colour Computer, however with a different plug. You could push the joystick in to one of the edges and flip it over and there was 2 switches and you could flick one or both and make it a free movement along one or both axis
