Humans cannot sustain this state? Have you seen me on the job?

I mean, considering my level of cognition when I'm functioning on 3 hours of true sleep and 4-5 hours of half-arsed attempted napping, I see how they sustain it. I too function entirely on instinct in such a state, needing coffee to get me lucid for about an hour or so, then back into routine mode. I can still come across as a functional human being, but only by rote and experience.

I feel like I am capable of doing this, but it usually involves being somewhere I don't want to be, doing something I don't want to do, and listening to someone I don't care to listen to drone on and on about something I don't care to think about. To think they evolved this ability without having to first invent jobs and taxes and 24-hour news cycles and other modern conveniences? Nature is simply amazing!

Dozing off repeatedly for hours? Amateur hour. Try surviving a Monday morning meeting without caffeine - now that's true endurance.

That state where you keep dozzing off and immediately waking yourself up, only repeatedly for 11 hours a day sounds like absolute hell.

My sentiments exactly. This sounds like torture.

You may have sleep apnea. You should get a CPAP to fix that.
