The Quack Family Stands With PBS

Jul 19, 2025 6:31 PM

PBS was a huge part of my childhood from Mr. Rogers, Ghostwriter, Reading Rainbow, Sesame Street, Wishbone, and so much more. It taught me how to be kind, compassionate, love animals, and overall, how to be a better person. So yes, it is a crime that this beloved resource is under attack in the US.

A lot of PBS funding comes from us, the US viewers, but rural and low-income communities rely heavily on public funding to keep these stations alive (Like here in Alabama). Cutting that support isn’t just budget trimming. It’s silencing them.

If you’d like to help PBS keep going, you can donate here: https://www.pbs.org/stations/

The Quack Family regularly donates to our local PBS, and I personally know some of the wonderful people who work on Sesame Street and at NPR. They do it for the love of a better tomorrow, not for financial gain. And, as Mr. Rogers once said "Look for the helpers."

I have such strong memories of Mr. Rogers, Reading Rainbow, and, for some reason, Jack Horkheimer.

I'll be outside at night and remember 'keep looking up'. And I'll look. Because, damn, dude, you really liked explaining space stuff.

PBS was a mainstay for me as well growing up as a kid. Even though I don't watch it nearly as much now, I still donate. Their programming is just too beneficial to lose.

I started donating back in 2017. One of our friends' dad worked on Sesame Street as a camera man so we were introduced to a number of the people who work in the production. It's heartbreaking to me to read all the cheering to get rid of it. :(

Sesame Street, The Electric Company, and Mr. Rogers were all favorites when I was a kid. Later, when I was in college, I had a class project that used his studio at WQED. The various sets were stored/displayed in the hallways. It was so awesome to be that close

And zines. Probably zines.

I'm 45 and I watched it growing up but I still enjoy a lot of their shows to this day. NOVA, Nature, Secrets of the Dead, American Experience, Ken Burns, Henry Louis Gates Jr, and others are awesome. They tell the real story of America without any sugar coating. That's probably a large reason they defunded the station.

Donate to your local stations, not the foundation.

Good call! I fixed it. :D

Thanks friend ❤️

Right there with you, Quack. I've got a friend at each local NPR/PBS affiliate station. They're estimating a $2.5 million dollar hole in the budget now.

In just 6 months, I have known so many people whose lives have been turned upside down. Good people who did not deserve this.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same. One of the best things we can do to combat it is get involved in community engagement. Not just protesting or voting (do those too!) but actively investing in things like your local library/PBS/after school program, volunteer at community garden/food pantry, get to know (and check on) friends & neighbors. Being a decent human can absolutely be a form of resistance.

It's amazing how such a small amount of money in the grand scheme of things that is. Crickets from the billionaires on stepping in to help as always.

And that is why they want them gone. CRT. Compassionate Rational Thinking.

My partner and I have decided to cancel our other streaming services and donate that money to public broadcasting

1 week ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 1

We've cancelled a lot of ours as well. It's just too expensive.

Then they will be funded by Viewers Like Me, goddammit

PBS Passport (their streaming service) is $60 a year ($5 a month) and is tax deductible. You help them and get something in return.

1 week ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 1

I have it!

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love PBS Passport. They have some great programming, and you get to see some shows before they are released to non-Passport members. I like that - I’m a binger. You can donate more than $5 a month if you are so inclined!

1 week ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

And remember you can add a company that will match your donation. Like Oprum- aka United Health

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How? Do you have to have business with that company?

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its an option when you sigh up for passport

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Random question, is this something non-US peeps can sub to? Cause from what Ive seen there's some stuff on here I might like, and for that price I'd sign up as soon as I have a job again.

I looked into it for you, because I was curious. According to their FAQs: “The PBS Passport benefit is available to members inside the U.S. and territories, and members in Canada. Outside of those regions, members will be unable to stream content on our site or app.
PBS is not a producer, but rather a distributor of programming. Our distribution rights are fairly limited.
We regret not being able to offer all our content online to our supporters outside the US (& Canada, I would imagine).

I would assume it's accessible with a VPN even if it is region locked to NA

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well, region-locked to US and Canada.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

While I'm not entirely sure of the direct and "proper" answer, I do know that VPNs are a most interesting invention.

Everything is available in your country with a proper VPN.

The FM Radio Station I used to squeak from has suddenly, not only become a Car Wash! But they deliberately parked a Burrito and Yiros Van, they said I could have both. Yirosburrito!

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I still watch some pbs stuff especially YouTube channels and listen to news

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you have a subscription to Paramount +, cancel that and instead put that money to PBS.

And pirate Star Trek.

Paramount will probably try to make it "less woke" anyway, in order to appease Trump.

Or they'll do a plot 180 and make the Terran Empire or the Confederation the good guys.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I always find it funny when people complain that Star Trek is now woke. Like, y'all, do you even Star Trek? 🤣

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I made a comment the other day under a youtube community post by Lore Reloaded ...[ahem] recycling my attempt at Pithyness, and I was getting multiple "TDS" replies and complaints about how Trek should be cancelled because it's Woke these days...

Hmm, I should go back and stir that particular commenter.

After WWII, Germany invested heavily in public media, for…reasons

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

People are downvoting publicly funded media? Why?

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You mean as they westernized under Allied control?

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

They were already “westernized”. And no, it was a deliberate policy decision by them, because they had seen the danger of propaganda. Even today, German public media is considered my most to be among the most trustworthy sources. If we had supported our public media to the same degree we might not be in our current mess.

I will cut someone if they take Wait, Wait away from me.

Everyone either become a menber or just donate. They've pulled in a ton of $$$ since T targeted them. We can all keep them afloat. And hopefully an honest, non-partisan judge will dismiss this FRIVOLOUS LAWSUIT.

I wonder if the gov’t is wanting PBS to stop the production of their Frontline documentaries. They’re sometimes the best and yet the last ones the gov’t wants us to see.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm British and sad that PBS has been defunded. Despite never seeing Sesame street as a child, I can definately see the good it's done for children and adults (esp the bert & ernie memes!). I watched a fair few Nova documentaries 20+ years ago and they were up there with the best of the stuff the BBC has put out... I really hope they continue!

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So much funny stuff happened down in Crinkly Bottom when I was a kid! Blobby was everywhere in my town in the '90's, even the local carpet shop had Mr Blobby painted on their signs.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wonderful. Thank you. I wasn't allowed to watch Sesame Street, when I was little because it "encourages racial integration." Of course I didn't understand that at all, being age 4. I was so thankful to be able to watch it later in life! @op Genuinely; "thank you" to you and your friends.

Good going nonvoters and protest voters. Another one lies at your feet.

1 week ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 5

They’re all closet racists who just hate women, lgbtq and minorities, or else they would vote

1 week ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 4

These same people pretend they support women's right and say they're lgbtqia+ allies.

Manipulative virtue-signallers.

1 week ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

Maybe, but the majority are lazy or more likely apathetic. They don't "follow" politics like people don't follow sports. They don't seem to get how heavily this affects them. They continually say "well, one vote won't make a difference" and that's multiplied by millions. We need compulsory voting like Australia and other countries have, in my opinion.

A multitude of morons

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

While the effect is the same, I don't think we can ignore the sizable chunk of dumb and heavily propagandized people that are genuinely unaware of anything the republicans wanted to do. People genuinely, some fucking how, unaware of any racism, sexism, homophobia, or the dismantling of unions and government agencies. They get all their news from republican owned sources that bury it, and don't question a damn thing. Might as well be racists in effect, but the solution to them is different.

also the Democratic party continues to collude, cheat, and force candidates during national elections. the only logical outcome is disenfranchisement. they refused to learn from the nonsense they pulled with Hillary and the evaporation of Harris's voter turnout reflected this.

So true. A friend yesterday asked me if I liked any of trump’s policies?! Policies?!? He rules by executive orders which can be undone instantly.

I want to donate, but I don't know which one to donate to. Didn't realize there was a plethora of donation choices!

I just made a post about this. Donate to the most rural station in your area or neighboring state. (Check out my most recent post)
