It’s my Cakeday - Have some Fallout

Aug 30, 2024 1:37 AM

The only things I’m really passionate about right now are politics, Calvin & Hobbes, and Fallout (my perennial hobby).

But this place has a lot of politics already. And posting a dump of Calvin & Hobbes strips would likely get taken down for copyright implications.

So here’s some Fallout stuff. It’s mostly memes, fan art, wallpapers, and some promo material from the Amazon show.

I don’t have a cat for tax. So have some Deathclaws.

#10 That's pretty close to the modded outfit I gave to curie in my actual game. By accident.. of course.

Playing my first modded run of 4 right now. It took 3 fucking weeks to get my modlist working, and I had to restart the game twice, but it’s been so worth it.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Welp, time to go play Fallout: London

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Might want to wait for the next big update. I still have problems with crashes. (sighs in Nvidia)

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

With Buffout 4 and a few loader mods its performance is significantly better, but I do randomly get crashes out of the blue after an hour or two, could still be memory issues but im running at 100-140 FPS on average. Somehow getting better performance than regular FO4.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I occasionally get 3 second loading screens, but it's usually more like 10 - 20 seconds (down from 300 - 400 seconds before 1.01 and tweaks). It still regularly crashes around 65 minutes of play.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When i first started I had forgotten how broken FO4's NORMAL graphical settings were, could barely get over 30 FPS and random crashes, found out it was the bullet Decal PhysX and the FPS was due to shadow distance and godrays... How the hell do you make a game so inherently unoptimized is beyond me, to the point it can barely run on modern hardware with the highest of settings? And people wonder why I fucking hate Gamebryo (no one @ me on the creation rename, its still the same engine from TES3)

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They did it nearly the same on Starfield with a different engine.

I have no idea. I found it online.

You have inspired me to give fallout 4 another try (I already played 3 and new Vegas to death, but could never get into 4).

#11 Wait, why would the price be in caps? Is that ad supposed to have been made after the bombs fell?

1 year ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Um... something something economy

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

That's your complaint about a universe where radiation makes immortal zombies and giant green monsters want to put people in vats of goo?

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

Go back to bed, Pete. Nobody cares what you think about Fallout and your approach to PR and marketing is incompetent.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This isn't a complaint about realism, it's a complaint about internal consistency.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why would I complain about those things? They're both cool and internally consistent. Having an ad poster for Nuka Cola list the price in bottle caps is neither.

1 year ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Well, then I can suggest, that possibly the NCR, which had printing made advertisements for the more civilized areas before they switched to real money?

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Besides the artist not thinking this through. Drink brands had and still have promotional contests and lotteries involving bottle caps.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Just gonna pretend some vault dweller made it in the vault

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Oh all the vault dwellers made it in the vault. That's how they became vault dwellers. Few made it out though...

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Vaults don't use bottle caps either. It's entirely a wasteland thing, and to be precise, restricted to the West Coast since it's backed as currency by the Hub water merchants. The East Coast Fallouts shouldn't use bottle caps either unless you'd argue the isolationist Brotherhood of Steel, who has no stake or interest in the currency, brought it along and convinced the inhabitants to adopt caps even though they are nonsensical for them.

I meant vaults that communication with the outside postwar but still remained indoors like vault 81 vault 88 etc

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

prob 101 after Fallout 3 and any vaults left functional in the NCR territories (does the vault in 76 use it? never played 76)

I think probably my favorite companion, especially once you get her a synth body and properly romance her? Awesome companion.

Seemed a lot more depth to her character compared to Kate. Like yeah Kate had a bit of story, but once you cured her of the chem addiction, she became very broken record with almost nothing of interest to say.

The best companions are almost always made by modders, unfortunately modders' voice actors tend to be pretty subpar and violently break immersion

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Best companion for interactions is 100% Nick. In a power gaming sense, Dogmeat. Has his own fairly decent perk line in Attack Dog, and you still qualify for Lone Wanderer.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The game is almost indescribably boring without a companion character to make comments and help entertain. Frankly the funnier and more off the wall the comments, the more I enjoy them.

But I'd be lying if I didn't admit the way I typically roll through both Skyrim and FO4 is as a female character with a harem of 3-5 followers, all modded out with CBBE and outfits and everything.

I am aware of FNIS and all the slooty stuff, but I don't go any farther than nightclub-level sexy outfits

Coolest thing about Fallout 4 was the survival mode: no saving, hunger and thirst mechanics etc. 20 mins in my first run I got in a power armor, jumped a bit awkwardly and got stuck in some scenery. Never again doing anything remotely iron man mode in a Bethesda game.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You can run survival mode with saving enabled...with mods, of course. It's quite fun, allows you to experience hunger/thirst without getting too inconvenienced by the game-breaking bugs.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I’m playing modded Survival right now, and if I couldn’t save, I would have thrown my controller into the stratosphere by now.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#38 this is accurate

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Any fun builds to recommend for a Fallout 1 or 2 run? Small weapons + pickpocket I've done already.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Low int runs are a LOT better in 1-2. High luck builds are always a blast (in someone elses hands)

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pacifist run: Resolve all combat by running away or reverse-pickpocketing superstims. You'll hate every single moment of it with a searing passion

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Unarmed + Jinxed is a classic, especially if you pump up your luck - everyone else's guns jam but your fists don't! (Maybe take Doctor though because your bones can still break).

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Otherwise, Energy Weapons is strong as a late pick in Fallout 1, but becomes a fun build in Fallout 2 - you won't get an energy weapon for a while, and the earliest is probably to beeline to New Reno and start the Salvatores questline and get a pistol from his office, you'll be scrounging for ammo for a while but it's fun and the death animations are great. Runs where you don't steal ANYTHING are fun, increases difficulty quite a bit. Melee is fun in both games.

#13 wondful?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah. As someone else pointed out, it also says “wastland”. Maybe it’s wasteland spelling. There’s only one active school in the game after all.

Ot the maker can't spell their way out of a wet paper bag

Codsworth is doing his best, sir.

I hate Cazadors with the fire of a thousand suns... or basically their fire.

For fun, wander south of Goodsprings and collect dynamite. Then, if you head north of the cemetery but veer west and stay on top of the mountain, you can get a nice overview of the camp with those things flying around. Raining dynamite on them is rather satisfying.

Thanks! Good tip! I will try that on my next playthrough.

#20 still can’t make myself sell or drop the wedding rings tho

1 year ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I always save it to equip on the character I choose to romance on that file.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Immediately sold it for Stimpaks lol

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same. I’ve heard of people giving the wedding ring to companions like Piper or Curie. I could never bring myself to do that either.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I keep mine and give Nate's one to a companion later on, some modded companions also have reactions to you giving it to them

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a couple mod companions, but they’re so badly acted that I can’t imagine romancing them.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hetaher Casdin's decently acted and made as far as voiced companions go but yeah admittedly many of them aren't the best done

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She’s one of the ones I have. She’s not as badly acted as Ellen the Cartographer, but she’s not great.
