I was in China when it happened, working for a newspaper. It was the end of the workday and we were just putting the paper to bed.
I had a friend in NYC and I tried calling him to get a quote but all the lines were down. We tried to redo the paper but then word came down from the top authorities in Beijing to cease all reportage, saying all stories would come out of the party HQ.
The top fear was that a small error could start WWIII. The fear was real.
Meanwhile I was almost done for the day and had been playing hearts on Yahoo Games when the first plane hit. The side chat had been fun and jokey, most people were American.
When I got back to my desk an hour later I saw the chat had transformed, with people wanting to slaughter, bomb and destroy in revenge.
I felt like the attackers had discovered a new chamber of the human heart and unleashed a wave of evil upon the world.
I really feel like things never got back to normal afterward; it’s been darkness ever since.

Shit. I was working at a gas station when it happened. My manager was talking about going to war as if it was awesome and exciting, saying there were two other countries with us. We didn't even know what all happened or who did it at that point.

On this same day in 1973, the US government overthrew Chile's democratically elected successful government and killed 3000 people who were defending their capitol and then installed a ruthless dictator who then proceeded to commit human rights violations and sell every scrap of the country to US business interests. September 11th 1973 in Chile. It's a heavy day for sure. Weird how nobody thought that event would spark ww3, because who cares if a few thousand socialists die and more become slaves

I got sent home from work that day. I’d been to a vodka bar the night before and was still drunk when I got to work so got sent home. Went back to bed and put my little 14” portable tv on and holy shit, wtf! Still not sure what to believe actually happened or rather who is responsible.

I was in 6th grade English/Social Studies (teacher taught both classes). Teacher got phone call, sent some students out, and school went on as normal. Didn't find out anything until I got home, mom already home from work, and was sitting in middle of living room floor watching new. Asked her what going on

I was at a football game the night before. My husband called, waking me up, we lived in Colorado then. He asked me about a plane hitting a building in NYC. I turned on the tv.
I remember getting a glass of oj when the plane hit the pentagon.
My father was traveling and I wasnt sure where he was. A bit frantic but he was in California.
Visited NYC that Christmas. The smell and the dust everywhere we went was awful. We moved to Richmond the following March. Drove by the pentagon a few times.

All i remember is that after it happened Americans started treating us Canadians like shit.

I was also somewhere, I mostly remember it precisely.
I also don't really care about this enhanced school-shooting on 11-9 in some far away town in a third world country. Too bad it had the military power to involve the rest of the world with it's misguided mission of revenge.

Today is my uncles birthday. For years people asked him if he was going to celebrate or not. His response: "It was my birthday long before that happened."

Great attitude. My bday is on a bad day as well. Not for the country but the area I live in, I feel the same way

My workmate was born this day 2000. Meeting her transformed the day from a sad day for Americans to a new reason to celebrate
