Use Linux or don’t upgrade to 11

I'm sure that as quickly they can add it, just as quickly there will be hacks to disable it.

As soon as Valve's Proton gets out of Beta (if it ever does) it's linux time, for life

ha as if all the worlds techies wouldn't crack that open before the release of windows 11 despite not having it

This will make me keep Win10 as long as possible and then go to Ubuntu ?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

they've been doing the same thing for a while. They advertise the Edge Browser and OneDrive etc.

To see what; how angry they can make people?

Bold move there. File explorer is probably the easiest to replace program and worst Microsoft still has.

Linux it is then!

I don't like Gimp. I need my photoshop :|

Yeah, going straight to Ubuntu on any machine I get. Enough distractions to productivity on phones and browsers, now file explorers too?

Keeping windows 10 it is then. Fuck that shit.

I'm still using Win7.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Sadly there’s no DirectX12 in win7, plus it doesn’t support the amount of RAM I want.

My home pc needs are more base than gamers. I'm currently researching options for a media based PC version of linux. Much to learn.

how much do you want?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

128GB, and no, I didn’t want to pay for professional 6 years ago.

it's ok, I 'm not cross at you mate

FYI: don’t ever pay for MS Office. Go to office.com and use the online version free. For a desktop app: openoffice.org

I use libre office, but it has some strange bugs with formulas that work in excel or google sheets. Free is good though.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Use LibreOffice. OpenOffice is dead, like many things Oracle touches.

Thanks for the update. I’ve been trapped in the corporate Microsoft Only sphere for a while now.

My desperation to leave all that is Microshaft has prompted me to expand and learn about many new things.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Libreoffice is what I use also.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Do you know how I can port over all my writing to Libre? My license for Office is about to expire.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

MA Office, for clarification.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would have no clue. Haven't used Office in a very long time & it depends on several factors Might be an import option? Copy/Pasta? *shrug*

I'm sure my adblocker would soon learn to deal with it - and anyway, this machine can't do W11.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I used to get weird pop ups on WXP that looked like push notifs. I distintly remember downloading 2 pop up blockers that fixed it. I dont-

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

-think they were viruses or malware, but I'm not sure if they were windows either. I just remember those programs blocking them.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Your ad blocker works outside your browser? Amazing

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi-hole and the one on my phone always works across any app on the phone.

Since reading this article, I have heard a lot of that.

I rarely see an advert - watching broadcast TV comes as a bit of a shock!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've not had cable the entire time my kids have been around. Whenever they go to relatives and watch TV they are shocked how shitty it is.
