Not sure if it's a viable outlet but the Meat Canyon guy seemed excited to take a break from his main YT gig for his side project in a recent post

That's a trick you don't want corporate to know about!

Unpopular opinion, maybe request a day off once in a blue moon. Make up something important if you have to.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Take all your sick time and vacation. "I'm not feeling well" can literally just mean. "I don't feel like working today. " . If you're responsible for your own schedule you can even plan a sick day by making sure not to schedule things that day. If you're not responsible for your schedule and your employer cannot function without you, that is a problem for your employer, not you.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

A lot of employers tell you that they need all hands on deck, but that's often from deliberately scheduling the absolute bare minimum required to run the business. If they wanted to cut labor costs by scheduling so few people that one person being sick can throw everyone off, that's THEIR fault and you shouldn't feel guilty for not being there.

I don't feel like working every day. Now what?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Me too buddy. Just take the days you can get.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You've been promoted to customer.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was promoted to customer once and it was literally one of the best moments of my life.

716 days in a row at an avg 10hr/day and counting (including weekends). I have my first week off come April and the company is full panic…can’t wait to renegotiate my pay come April. I’m not bragging, as i have no life and I’m salary…

The thing that kills me is that the businesses can't be held liable for the deaths. That's 100% their responsibility, to provide a safe workplace. And that's before adding kids to the mix.

Something really unsettling about this Captain America. Not 100% sure what it is. Kind of like when SpongeBob does the very detailed cuts. Or maybe the Accio Bum video. Idk

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

why did he turn into putin in the end?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*gentle hugs*

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup. Found out recently I have over 100 hours of PTO because I don't take time off...... I need a vacation.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My job doesn’t allow you to build up more than 80, and if you don’t use it by the end of the fiscal year, it’s gone. They of course get angry when everyone burns through their vacation at the end of the year at once.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

In my state, that's illegal.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think at this point you should have legal rights to ask the EU for asylum...

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty tired boss, dog tired.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

but that's only 2.5 weeks. How much vacation are you getting per year?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Uuuhhh. I calculated it and I can actually take an entire MONTH off with my current PTO. (I hope you're calculating 8 hour days and not thinking I'm on call 24/7?)

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

100hrs of vacation is normally 2.5 weeks. 40hrs/wk, 100/40=2.5
Are you only working part time?

Unpopular Opinion ; I loved ALL the Avengers movies

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

People only started hating them when they became popular. Loved all of them and my ex was super happy we watched all of the movies before End Game.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People really need to watch some of the mid movies from 90-00 to know how bad movies were. Daredevil, OG Fantastic Four, Batman Forever, first X-Men etc are now considered flops or maybe unsuccessful or bad, but they were not only decidedly successful, they really were not bad at the time. Let’s put it this way, Marvell has never put something out as bad as Batman and Robin (unless you go back to Howard the Duck in 1986).

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Very true.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Me too!!! Age of ultron is my fave, but some say it's their least fave.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I loved Age of Ultron.. The beginning part where they try to pull the hammer and all the old veterans get drunk on Thors booze was one of the best scenes ever. When Vision came to "life" was awesome too. And Ultron was such a great villain, the only gripe that I have was that it was Tony and Bruces robot, not Pyms.

AoU was my least favorite out of them, just cuz I had many gripes about Ultron. But James Spaders delivery of that role made it so much better I just didn’t care.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's weird how we recognize that kids need regular breaks and holidays off, but adults get maybe 2 weeks off a year if they're lucky.

2 years ago | Likes 190 Dislikes 1

6 weeks PTO per year here, as is mostly standard in IT in Germany. Buddy of mine negotiated 44 days working in the public sector.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In America maybe. In Denmark we get 6 weeks

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dat's socialist talk

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Conveniently, giving kids summers off means less expense from the public, while adults working all the time means more productivity.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And by productivity, we mean corporate profit goes up more.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It doesn't always mean that more gets done. Sometimes, yeah. Not every time.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on the job I guess. I work for the US government. Been there for over 15 years so I get 26 annual days and 13 sick days(everyone gets this) annually and they roll over if not used. Your tax dollars............

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Thank your union for that.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And those 2 weeks are general "PTO". So, that's what you have to use for sick days, doctor appointments, government stuff, etc

2 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

A lot of jobs, you get no time off at all. You either go to work or you don't get paid. And yet, kids are only at school for maybe 8 months.

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

... Do y'all just not have any labour laws whatsoever or what

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

We do but they are somewhat biased towards the employer, the strict stuff is only to reduce injuries

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You can't let employees get physically injured, but you can overwork them into psychological damage that will take decades to repair.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The (American) company my husband works for actually gives employees a decent amount of vacation time, but the catch is that the phone calls and emails never stop and always have to be answered, even if you are on PTO. Kinda puts a damper on actually enjoying that time.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Lol that’s illegal in many countries. Answering calls and emails is work so he’d better get paid when he answers them

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

HAHA!!!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s sad you think this is a joke, everyone should get the right to be off the clock. Fully off, no contact until back at work.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Of course. I laugh because it doesn't happen.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We are addicted to capitalism. Other countries have holidays where everything closes down. Japan has two week-long holidays. In the US it's become normal for holidays not to be celebrated on the actual day, but to shift it to the nearest weekend as to not burden our employers. Labor day is usually worked by most laborers. The only day everything is closed is Christmas, when honestly there should be one of those every month. A lot of this is due to low pay, can't afford to miss a day.

2 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 1

Oh there's plenty of places open on Christmas.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And don't forget, our Labor is celebrated on a different day than the rest of the world, because communism bad

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

And the day in the rest of the world was chosen in reference to a US event.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Think that's more the fact they follow government holidays as schools are government entities(maybe a bit less so now with charter schools). Doubt the kids were in mind

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Uh, let me know when two-to-three weeks off for Christmas, a week for spring break, and two-plus months off for summer vacation become a government holidays.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And I'm sure if you dug into the origins of those there will be some advocates for child mental health or what have you but, my guess is most reasons revolve around other things like, teachers not wanting to teach in extreme heat or low attendance due to societal factors. Quick Google for summer break points to that.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

A lot of the breaks for kids were historically tied to the times their help was necessary on a family farm

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That sounds like an American holiday pattern, and that isn't lucky at all. 36paid days here for me in UK, plus days in lieu if I work overtime

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I only get like 28 days, and I see that as like average/okay. Two weeks is 10 days and criminal

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Turns out, basically everywhere else in the developed world actually treats workers like people instead of robots that exist only to work.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I get up to 12 weeks off per year..make about 8 weeks. It's unpaid, but still great to have so much time off. I can't believe so many people only take like 2 weeks off in an entire year.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

You provided the answer... 'unpaid.'

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

The majority of people (at least in the US) would be homeless/bankrupt/have no job to go back to if they took that much time off.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Okay but at the same time people have agency. If you want a job with more time off you need to find that job and become valuable. If you just take the first job at Walmart and never go to any school or take the additional trainings to make manager or whatever, well… 🤷 I do hope Americans understand there’s depressed people working crappy dead end jobs at 7-11 in Japan and Germany and Tibet or whatever country as well as here

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah but people should just be able to have time off. In the UK, a crap full time job still gives 22 days off. You should just get that

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Come to America! In the good ol’ USA, I’ve had a minimum 5 weeks off per year since I was 25.

Oh, you are in America? Move and change careers! It’s not like you had to choose your career in middle school and can’t change it (seriously, WTF, Germany)!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 10

I usually hate to be the ‘both sides’ guy, but you are actually completely correct. I’m a teacher so I get summers and winters off and still make 60k+ . I have a few buddies create or get into businesses where they get plenty of vacation time. Of course there’s less of those opportunities in the USA, but the only way to get over that is not to work those jobs. Find something you actually want to do and figure out how to be valuable. Don’t work at Starbucks and complain about hours. Its Starbucks

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's not standard in the US, and in Germany you can certainly switch careers

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The fuck are you talking about dude.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's definitely a bit of a ramble. I think they're implying that in Germany, the apprenticeship & type of high school you went to solidifies your career choice for life. While it's true that it settles the job you enter, you can always train for something else. Quite a few professions have listings specifically welcoming people who are switching career path.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Admittedly it's difficult to actually find an apprenticeship at a later age in life, but it's not impossible

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Exactly, it's no different than anywhere else really. I've seen 40-50 year olds going to university. I have a friend in his mid 30s who decided what he originally wanted to be wasn't for him so he's doing something new.
I've never done a single thing with the apprenticeship I originally did, I just chose that as a fallback and then went to uni to learn what I actually wanted to be.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, because people struggling to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table can easily just move to another state where they don't know anyone and aren't guaranteed a job, all on a whim.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Not easy! Was very hard for me, but was completely worth it.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

You're missing the point. A lot of people are one missed paycheck away from homeless. They legitimately CAN'T move to a state with better labor laws.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

When I moved in to the place where I was renting a room before I started dating my now wife I had just under $13 to get me until my first paycheck and I didn’t yet have a job. I was desperate to the max and scared to death. I have been on that knife’s edge of begging and homelessness are less than two weeks away.

Do not fear change but make wise decisions along the way. Fear keeps you a prisoner to those who compensate you poorly.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

One unexpected car repair or hospital visit will have them living in the street. It's literally impossible for them to quit the crappy jobs that treat them like garbage.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Also, the entire concept of "just move if you don't like it" kind of implies that there's no point in trying to change anything.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Adults are only allowed so much happiness. Unless they're wealthy, then they can buy access to more. If you're poor, though, fuck you.

2 years ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 0

i don't like having to purchase a battlepass for existence

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And adults are only allowed fun if alcohol is involved. If you're 100% sober, enjoying anything is frowned upon.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

And people wonder why I spend all my free time gaming

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's one of the few activities that's even slightly socially acceptable to enjoy as an adult without any form of alcoholic beverage.
