Isnt everything you can communicate semantics? It's the subject of meaning itself. I've always respected the "you knew what I was talking about" response more because it directly implies bad faith. But if somebody goes "thats semantics" its almost like saying "youre just using words"

A little too often people lean really hard on the pseudo intellectual crutch of arguing word choices and definitions rather than the actual point. I mean sure it's valid if the point at hand is the definition of a particular word, but it often feels a lot more like Bill Clinton's "it depends on what the meaning of the word is is"
