Shot these with my phone, I have 10 minutes of video in 5 clips as well. My worry is the last time I saw this was 1989. From this same location.

This is the best resource for information and education about how the Sun affects our magnetosphere and, as a result, funnels high energy pouring down and inducing current in the grid, internet, satellite and even underground wires.
For a quick reference, look up the Carrington event. Thankfully, we learned enough from the last 2 biggies. The grids across the globe, for the most part, have safeguards in place and policies for the alerts

I’m not sure, borealis is due to sun activity, it’s the one thing not actually impacted by the poor environment

I thought it wouldn't appear in summer... are you in Southern hemisphere? what latitude?

It normally wouldn’t, but the sun is entering a peak in solar activity during it’s 11 year cycle and fired off 6 huge solar flares at us in 24 hours. It was enough to cause the aurora to go ballistic. Honestly I’m surprised it didn’t destroy a shit load of satellites and cause power outages too.

I think I recall hearing somewhere that shielding sensitive equipment against X-Class Flares is fairly easy, and that it's a requirement for such equipment in many places. In addition, there's not much risk to the vast majority of electronic devices.

However the much rarer CME events have the potential to cause substantial damage, however because we can know ahead of time when a CME is approaching, we can take steps to protect important equipment and infrastructure when we know one is coming.

... that said, it won't be a walk in the park. I'd imagine our reaction would be to power down most of our infrastructure for 3 days to a week to be safe, maybe allowing them to come online briefly in late evening to early morning. that would be very difficult to deal with, no power during the day for a week for the entire planet.
