As a non musician I had no idea what a shubb was until I googled it just now. Thought that thing in the photo was for cracking walnuts and the like. If it was a nut cracking I feel the joke would be funnier, but would only work on men. Maybe a device for twisting nipples perhaps? :-)
Because it's a reference to a very rarely used piece of equipment for a particular stringed instrument. Terrible joke for the general public. My guess is that it's a repost from some guitar-centric FB group.
Depends a lot on genre. Similar to drum machines, some people think it's the best thing ever, others will refuse to play at the same venue if you bring one.
Agree but I think when he mentioned genre, he is referring to the lead guitarist (usually no capo) either playing solos over rhythm guitar (likely using capo) or styles where power chords (1-5-1). are more predominant than full chords
The thing on bottom of the mic is a capo. It is used on a guitar to allow open strings to sound higher. The photo is meant to be a joke, clipping the capo on the mic will make the sung notes higher.
I'm a little shocked that most people don't know what a capo is and are calling a "clamp". Then again, when I went to school Music class was still funded and a mandatory part of the day.

I always upvote this!

Lemme just grab the capo
rshewmaker6
Thought it was a nipple clamp
Futuron
Maybe this clamp should go on another spot if you were a guy. That would certainly get you hitting higher notes.
ManOfEvil93
"singers hate this one trick to better music".......' turns microphone ON '
HandoB4Javert
Sound joke, engineer...
CameForTheBooty
Only works for men
worm61
This would be like a guitarist putting a capo on their amp. If you want it to work, you gotta clamp it on your windpipe.
WhaleMilker420
I legit know a dude who goes to karaoke and sings gray notes. As in, nothing found on the piano scale. Just the gray between the black and white keys.
Spiffytown
Give yer balls a clamp, ya titfucker
Violaquin
Apply directly to da ballz.
ShiftyBat
Don't forget to plug one ear and point to the notes as you do your run. Mariah, Beyonce, Gaga, all know this.

Oh man my band plays a show tomorrow night and I’m the lead guitar/ top harmony vocals. I’m gonna totally use this as banter in between songs

They don't understand that the thing attached to the microphone is a hand held device for cracking nuts, meaning squeeze your testicles. :-)
taez555
So it's not a joke about not using Shubb?
MarcUK

I kinda like the fact that no one gets it and has their own idea of what it might be. :-)
MarcUK
I think this might be op's kink. xD
MrSwissroll
My friend doesn't get it.

Capo on guitars let you move the key upwards in register
vmos
if you don't already know what a capo is, that explanation won't help

I though you would put The clamp thing on your balls. Maybe i should seek help
ScaredSpitless
That’s closer to the jokes I remember singers making about wearing tight enough underwear for the high notes.

I can help you 😏
joebellson
Yeah I was trying to figure out if that’s what this was implying.
Korkenknopfus
As soon as possible.
But I thought that, too.
PimpoMatic
yes, both of you need help. It was clearly designed to be clipped onto the shaft for some hands free operation.

Rarely? What? I use mine every day.

Gruesslibaer
Absolutely no one will refuse to play at a venue if someone else uses a capo.

theskepticinme
A capo is not a rare guitar accessory.
Larktonguesinadicecup
I used to have one of those stretchy ribbon ones. Those are rare. They're awful lol.
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
My guitar teacher specifically told me not to get that kind :)

Thank you, kind stranger.
film888master9
I thought it was something that would squeeze your nuts so you sang higher. Silly me
Eldroidio
Hey, you pronounced capo wrong, its capo not capo!
pareidoliaperson
I had two things in mind. One was nipple twisters and other was dick pinchers. Also helps I guess.

Thanks! That was super helpful!

oh, i thought it was a nutcracker lol

So it's not about squeezing the nether region with that contraption, guess my friend guessed utterly wrong then.

It's how you turn a bull into a steer
ParallelParkingInABurka
My friend thought the same. Perverts, both of them.
TheShoggothOfMosquitoCreek
That was my thought as a non- musician also. I was wondering what part of the singer's anatomy it was supposed to pinch.
ThrashAndChemistry
Your friend has a valid idea - note that I never said HOW it is used on the guitar.
Copperbrat
You're definitely not the only one. My brain went there, but mostly because it's imgur's FP.
Ionico
That too is an acceptable use of the capo
mikeatike
With consent.
tymonaSmasher
How can a guitar consent
FlissFloss86Gaming
Brb, gonna go........play guitar.....
