The "sweet spot" is 5.5 to 7.5 hours which is perfect as I usually sleep for 5 - 6 hours get up for a pee then sleep for another 5 - 6 hours

Yet to read, but, is there research to suggest it's causative? Ie: that the lack/surplus of sleep CAUSES neural decline?

It looks like they're just noting the association/correlation. It may well be that the disease affects sleep, or both are affected by a 3rd.
