She also forgets that men sleeping around can infect women with HPV. She just instantly asumes it must be only the fault of the women. What a dick-move!

ovarian cancer is not caused by sleeping around...

What do you know, are you a doctor? Even if you are, let me tell you that I have done my own research, soooo...

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Having sex gives you cancer

11 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Right ...male Doctors, the same ones who refused to admit the Clit even existed for a few centuries in medical texts. The ones who can't understand a woman's specific medical issues at times because they can't relate.

It's good we actually have female doctors, there are entire medical texts that were written because they wouldn't delve into medical issues women did suffer but weren't believed.

11 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Let's keep going on HPV vaccines: the current ones only cover a few of the najor strains. Keep going! Get them all!

11 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Yep. I got the shots as a teen. I got a rare aggressive version that wasn't covered. Go figure. Luckily I've been cancer free for 2 years.

I mean, it can be. HPV can cause cervical cancer and the more you sleep around, the more likely you are to contract HPV.

I mean trolls can’t really self-own, they don’t believe in what they're saying, they just say stuff to make people mad, that's it.

11 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

And they need to be banned for spreading misinformation or harmful ideologies.

11 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You can't ban trolls, all their accounts are throw-aways, they'll just make a new account again and again when banned.

Let us remember the stupid people that exist. So blinded by hate a bigotry, they will believe things like ovarion cancer only comes from sleeping around.
They will follow her to make fun of the same things she does. But that means they will also see the thing she is making fun of and it will get bigger and doo good things.

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ignoring them doesn't make them go away, it just leaves their bullshit standing uncontested.

11 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

I’d agree with you if they were trolls in positions of power. This is just a crazy lady standing on the proverbial corner of the internet screaming crazy shit. You ignore those people.

11 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

They can be given power. Look at Laura Loomer.

11 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

"isn't it crazy that I said that?" Is her literal product.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes and no, she's relatively unknown to normal people but does have a following in the right wing online manosphere, she up there with the Andrew Tate douchebags or that female Ben Shapiro clone whose name I can't remember. They get platformed by rightwing money/outlets so sadly have more reach than they have any right to

Because we all know that cancer is caused directly by the patient /s. All those with pancreatic cancer clearly tampered with their pancreas too much. Breast cancer is obviously a result of too much fondling. Stomach cancer is from too much eating. I can go on because being stupid is easy

11 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Gastric cancer and obesity are linked. As are cervical cancer and anal cancer and mouth cancer through HPV. Both of these can be prevented, through diet, or vaccination.

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Or barrier or condoms in the latter case too of course.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I notice ovarian cancer is not on that list. Thank goodness, because I don't want to imagine how you'd get the HPV up there. 0__0

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You think a vaccine is gonna wipe out the disease? Motherfucker, we have antivaxers bringing back previously almost wiped out disease because they want to feel like they're smarter than people who have devoted their lives to legitimate infectious disease research. We aren't wiping anything out until we wipe out the everyday acceptance of extreme fucking stupidity.

11 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Fortunately, very few cancers are communicable, so people who get the vaccinations will be protected. And people who are medically eligible but don't get vaccinated deserve cancer.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's a lot of proof of a connection between HPV and cervical cancer, which is definitely communicable, so certainly applies if this is explicitly that one.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

True, that's one of the few potentially communicable cancers. The meme is talking about ovarian cancer, and that is probably unrelated to HPV. And I can't think of any other human cancers that are generally communicable.

My point was that in the case of a cancer vaccine, we don't need to achieve herd immunity to protect young & immunocompromised members of the community, because that's not how cancer spreads. In the specific case of HPV, yes, one should get the vaccine before being sexually

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

active. And if one cannot get the vaccine for medical reasons, one should take extra precautions to avoid STIs.

Christofascist misogynist myth often holds that diseases of a reproductive nature are consequences of a sexually sinful lifestyle.
Like AIDS being God's punishment for homosexuality, they've now decided that ovarian cancer is a consequence of promiscuity in women.

Goes hand-in-hand with the antivax delusion. Basically, your body does good things if you're good, and does bad things, like contracting illnesses, if you're bad. So sick people deserve it, and the cure is conformity to the cult.

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Human Papillomavirus is one of the most common forms of sexually transmitted diseases. It has very subtle or sometimes no symptoms. It also leads to a very large increase in potential cancer in the uterus or throat.

11 months ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 4

HPV typically causes types of cervical or vaginal cancer, not uterine or ovarian.

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah but it doesn't cause ovarian cancer. I can see how that's a source of confusion but it doesn't excuse this asshat for shaming promiscuity or for assuming only men are doctors. Besides, HPV vaccine has been around for years and everyone, boys and girls, active or not, should get it. (I haven't, but I'm in my 40s. I suppose I should ask my doctor.)

11 months ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

Not 100% sure on Ovarian. There have been some studies showing slight linkage but they are generally calling for additional study to confirm or invalidate the potential connection: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1567134821003841

Man vs. woman propaganda is a constant that merely comes in and out of mainstream focus. Pearl's entire shtick is being a pretty white woman face of neo-fascist misogyny. She exists to validate the hatred guys like Andrew Tate have for women and not-men.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1. ovarian cancer is not caused by promiscuity. 2. vaccines can be developed by women

11 months ago | Likes 604 Dislikes 8

100% but ovarian cancer can be caused by HPV and even though some estimates are that 90% of men and 80% of woken will get it no matter what some weird people link it exclusively to promiscuity. They are ghouls. All current republican identifying people are ghouls

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

3. Even if it was a man doing it for the weirdly specific reason to help promiscuous women, it’s still a good thing done for people who need it.

11 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Idk that seems like a pretty controversial pair of statements. Source? /s

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

um, my pastor told me that ovarian cancer is caused by god being angry at slutty women. Its kind of like how if I talk about what happens in the church basement with the youth group god will be angry.

11 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

If the woman is a virgin and her husband was slutty she can get it from him.

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Promiscuity does increase your risk of contracting HPV strains 16 & 18, which are associated with increased risk of ovarian cancer. Hence why pap smears are done and performed more frequently for women who have multiple partners. Anytime you increase your sexual partners you increase the risk of disease. Same with men. It's just that cancerous HPV is mostly symptomatic in women.

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

Long time lurker here but had to actually make an account just to reply to this- HPV strains 16, 18 (and 41) increase the risk of CERVICAL cancer, not OVARIAN cancer. Those are 2 different parts of the female reproductive system and made up of very different cell types. Pap smears CANNOT detect ovarian cancer- only cervical cancer. Increased frequency of pap smears will not decrease your risk of ovarian cancer.

11 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Perhaps they are confusing this with cervical cancer which is usually caused by one of a few strains of Human Papilloma Virus, a sexually transmitted disease. The Gardasil vaccine has been highly effective at preventing this when administered to children starting around age 12, ideally before they become sexually active.

11 months ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 2

Even then it is a little ridiculous. A woman who has sex with no one but her husband her entire life could still get HPV from her husband if he slept with someone before or during their marriage. It's not like only women can get it or transmit it...

11 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately people got up in arms because they thought vaccinating their kid for an STI is in some way giving them permission to be sexually active.

11 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

In case anybody missed it, they've opened the HPV vaccine recommendations to include significantly more people over the past several years. If you've never had it, talk with your doctor.

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Available for folks up to age 45 I believe

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yeah, but at that point I'd say even if you're 50 it's still worth bringing up. Worst case is your doctor says "I don't recommend it for you".

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

correct, HPV-16 and HPV-18, and you're totally right about the cervical cancer vaccine: v

11 months ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

The HPV vaccine is included in Finland's national vaccination programme. In Finland, all 10-12-year-olds, i.e. pupils in grades 5 and 6, have the opportunity to get the HPV vaccine free of charge.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For what it's worth, I'm in the US and the HPV vaccine is 100% covered by my health insurance.
Several years ago when Rick Perry was running for president one of his opponents tried to hit him on "encouraging promiscuity" for implementing a state program on the HPV vaccine, and he simply responded "the state of Texas is opposed to cancer".

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

97-99% of cervical cancers are du to the VPH which is, sadly, a virus transmitted sexualy. That's why it's important to get the VPH cancer before being sexualy active. https://cancer.ca/en/cancer-information/cancer-types/cervical/risks

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Once again, I point out that the vaccine mentioned in the OP is against OVARIAN cancer, not CERVICAL cancer.

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wait, can vaccines deal with cancers that aren't coming from viruses?

11 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Relevant follow-up question: Is ovarian cancer caused by HPV? Cervical cancer can be, but I've not heard anything about ovarian cancer.

HPV is also not exclusively transmitted sexually. You can get it by shaking hands with someone. It just takes contact with the infected bit.

11 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ovarian cancer can be cause by PCOS, so no it is not just caused by HPV. Afaik any replicating cell in the body has the ability to mutate into a cancerous cell.

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I gotta assume we're not talking about HPV since that vaccine has been out for a while. But if they're preventing cancer that isn't related to SOME virus with a vaccine, then my understanding of vaccines is much too narrow

11 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

STIs don't cause cancer... Viruses don't cause cancer... Bacteria don't cause cancer... Cancer is your own cells messing up during the duplication process and making a bad set of copies that then continue to make bad copies. I teach this over simplification to my middle school students when we study the micro biome. This is not new knowledge. God damnit!

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

The human papilloma virus (HPV) can and does cause cervical, anal, and rarely throat cancers. HPV is, I believe, classified as an STI, despite the fact that sexual contact is not necessary to contract it.

11 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

yeah that's insane

11 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

90% of throat cancers are caused by tobacco use, so maybe not the best comparison.

11 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

You proved my point, commonly caused and exclusively caused are not the same thing. My point is people assume it's from one thing and you must've done that for it

More accurately it would be like saying "only smokers develop myeloid leukemia".
Smoking increases the risk, but genetics and age are much bigger factors.

11 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Or even if you're a virgin before marriage, but your husband passes on an infection that increases cancer risk (e.g. HPV), that you also deserve it?

You can do everything "right" by their book, but you should still die of slut-disease because you dared to be born as a woman.

“Traditional” meaning “God told some dudes thousands of years ago that the natural sexual state of humans is morally wrong” even though just like Bonobos do now, we also use sexual behavior to reinforce social bonds, which in turn stabilizes our species society.

Religious principles were almost always a solution for an actual societal issue. I wonder if monogamy was their way of attempting to reduce the prevalence of STI's?
Consider that the crowd they were pitching Christianity to were Romans.

Maybe that, and maybe also trying to reduce the number of single mothers, since society denied women any agency and granted them very little means of earning money

No wonder those "granny's want to fuck in YOUR area" ads stopped suddenly... (Joking aside, sorry for your loss)

The biggest risk factors for ovarian cancer are generic.

There's no known link to any infections of any kind whatsoever, security transmitted or otherwise. The vaccine works by teaching the immune system to attack the cancerous cells as soon as they form.

Actually not true! Cancer vaccines are a thing. As in, they don't protect you from a virus, they boost your immune system against cancer-specific antigens. Still in early stages of development though.

Okay this is super cool and I did not know this. Do you have a sauce for further reading?

Sorry, didn't see the notification! I had to look something up because the way I know about it is I used to be in research and the neighbor lab was doing cancer vaccine research. But I found a review on pubmed that talks about peptide-based cancer vaccines but there are other kinds like mRNA. If you type in cancer vaccine in pubmed you'll find more.

TL/DR is cancer cells often start making proteins that are unique and don't occur outside of cancer so you can develop a vaccine to get your immune system to recognize those and kill any cell that has it.
