A smattering of calligraphic styles

Jan 5, 2025 8:04 AM

I'm experimenting with adding some more decorative swash to the capitals of this gothic hand

Testing out some new nibs (I picked up a set of Brause bandzug nibs after Christmas) and they seem pretty happy with both gothic and rounder styles, which is nice to see!

Another experiment with the more decorative capitals

I got a book of 100 styles and how to write them for Christmas - this is the first one I've tried from it. My goal this year is to master at least one of them!

Cat tax! I don't have any floofs of my own, so this pic of one of my folks cats will have to suffice

Just received a fountain pen this Christmas (was my Great Grandad's). I aspire to have your skill!

Fountain pens are a great place to start! I've got quite a few in various styles, and usually have at least two on me at work - one with a fabulous sheening ink for personal notes and one with a waterproof ink for lab notes.
As for the skill - there's plenty of free resources online to help you get started :)

#2 At first I thought this was going to be about Gordon Ramsay.
Please recycle it into one about Gordon Ramsay? *puppy dog eyes*
