...two years ago, that is. I never posted about it on here, it felt weird to do a self-promo. Like this isn't the place for that. But I just went through and re-formatted it and made some tweaks, and someone encouraged me to share it as a second-edition re-launch kind of thing. Because how am I gonna get people to know about it if I don't, you know, show people? So here's my book.
The Sorrower, and Other Tales from Between Worlds.
Yes, I designed the cover. No, I do not have image editing capabilities. Yes, that's obvious. Yes, I'm sorry. On to the content.
It's a collection of light fantasy short stories in two parts. Part one is a series of vignettes that all feature the eponymous Sorrower, a man of unknown origin with powers over the metaphysical; a man who can reach out and take Sorrow into his hand. "You have thunder in your attic, Mr. Montgomery. That is your Sorrow." His purpose is not just to cure people of their Sorrows, but to help them find meaning in them. Who is The Sorrower? What is The Sorrower? Do those questions share an answer? This series investigates the life, love, and loss inherent to the human condition through the lens of not just who (or what) The Sorrower is, but through the lessons he imparts on all those who need him. There are seven stories in total, the last of which made at least one person cry, so I have that going for me.
Part two: Other Tales from Between Worlds. This is a collection of writing I've done over the years, polished up and compiled. Three of the stories were previous works, and one (A Vast Sea of Air) I wrote specifically for this book. They aren't directly tied to each other, but their similarities in tone, theme, and imagery make them a pretty cohesive whole in their own right, one similar in tone to part one of the book. (Fun fact: It wasn't until I started compiling all of this that I realized all of these stories have characters known only with a title. I guess I have a type.)
I never meant this book to be more than a passion project, a bucket list item, and it felt a little self-important to advertise on here. I wasn't sure if it would be well received, or if it'd just look like me shilling my wares. But here we are, taking a shot at it.
You can get it one of three ways: You can buy it using the ridiculously long Amazon link below, search it up on Amazon yourself (Two other authors have cropped up using similar titles. You'll notice I came first. Neener-neener), or you can message me and I'll gladly send you a PDF version. I'm not after selling copies, I'm after being read.
Sorry if this is self-congratulatory or tone-deaf or something. You never know what will happen when you put yourself out there until you do it, you know?
Cheers.
