What you see here is a Sun photographed from Mars surface by rover Perseverance. In front of it is Phobos, the bigger of the two moons orbiting the planet. The Eclipse happened on April 2nd 2022.

I didn't realize that Phobos is so irregular. In my mind, all moons were spheroids, all round and polished lol
CirB
Ah, I was wondering about the uneven shape, but it being Phobos' explains that.

Still nothing like a total eclipse of the heart. Also, my left arm hurts.
MrHappySmiles
That’s not a moon, that’s a spacerock asteroid.

More accurately a rubble pile that's barely holding itself together. It'll break up into a ring in ~ 50 million years.

TIL Phobos the moon is only 27km long at the longest point & too small for its gravity to shape it into a circle. Thus, it is not round.

Also Phobos orbits Mars closer than any other moon in the Solar system.
AirbagsGoPop
It would be odd if our moon was the closest to Mars.

On Earth it's not wise to look at the Sun with your own eyes. On Mars it's fainter, so maybe you could. For the first time. On our own eyes.

Maybe Ceres then? Although it might be so far that the Sun will appear too small :(
