When you have artisic talent and you draw, do you see the image fully rendered in your mind and fill it in? I always wondered

For the most part when I'm drawing I have a reference photo to look back on. So as far as rendering I just go off of the reference image.

I can draw, but no where near as good. My proportions are usually off and I can't replicate the image in my head to paper 100%
