First time learning how to use a hand plane. More importantly, learning how to sharpen a plane iron.

Quick and dirty honing guide measurement block. I began this process in my basement because it was 10 below last week.

Camber sharpened into the blade. This can help prevent the blade from digging in. And as seen below, you can slightly tilt the plane to only shave off one part of the wood.

The pencil lines went the width of the board until I shaved down the lefthand side using the camber.
Don't mind the vise. I just installed it and am making better 'jaws' for it. Let me know when you think.

Careful with that brake cleaner, really nasty stuff. Looking good otherwise.

That brake cleaner is for rust removal on an old axe head I was going to restore. I have a little 3-in-1 for the planes, and only have water stones for sharpening. But good lookin out!

Works like magic on rusty items: https://www.leevalley.com/en-us/shop/tools/workshop/tool-maintenance/58771-evapo-rust?item=56Z8061

Never considered brake cleaner before, I always used vinegar and steel wool
EugeneEff
It's what I've used to clean automotive parts, so I thought I'd have some on hand, just in case! Haha

Have fun with the planes. I have two Millers Falls planes and a Stanley that I'm working on getting the irons flat and sharp.
